    Hi,

Firstly Far Cry 2 rocks, well the engine is gorgeous, the game has a few issues we'd all like to see resolved but i'm shocked that i haven't been able to find a dedicated Far Cry 2 mod community by now.

For instance, where is the information on manually modding Far Cry 2 so that

    1) Enemy respawn times are 24 hours (or whatever the player desires).

    2) Darker Nights.

    3) Nerfing enemy durability.

And less trivial but as desirable,

    3) Some sort of flashlight attachment for weapons.

    4) Carnivorous animals.

Essentially i'm looking to get stuck in to some serious modding, i'd like to work towards an immersive sandbox shooter with STALKEResque RPG elements but one that is based on a bona fide shooter engine rather than an eclectic RPG engine (such as Fallout 3).

So my choices were Crysis or Far Cry 2 and because Far Cry 2 is already a tiny bit more RPG than Crysis and just as sexy, i thought Dunia is the way to go. . .

But alas, it seems that Crysis has scores of talented and ambitious modders working on a plethora of very cool things where as Far Cry 2 has . . . . nothing?!

    What is going on here?

lol...*sigh*, no sdk, if there was we might have a fully functional popular game.
So many possibilities killed to death by limited support. This engine could have been transformed into thousands of other mods, some focused on RPG some on tactical FPS others on survival and hunting.
Hell, we cant even import new objects or textures into the map editor.

    *sigh*

Your first step is to start ripping apart the packed files, and that’s just the beginning.
That’s what was done to the GTA series to allow mods, but
they have a much larger community. I don’t think anybody
here is going to devote the massive amount of time and coordinated effort to get it done.

(someone had started it, but gave up, I don’t blame them really.)
Its really too bad because there was such potential, I had a lot of ideas for SP addons.

    Blame the lawyers...

Yeah I believe I heard there would be no SDK ever for FC2. I think (dont know) this is becuase Dunia is so new...and I think (again, dont know) Ubisoft Devs havent even figured it out all the way. Look at all the glitches...I have played mods on Source and many other engines, and they are comparable bug and glitch-wise to FC2. Some (many) are much less glitchy and these mods are done by groups of guys whoarent getting paid, and may or may not have edcations in the field. Many unexpected things can happen when developing a game, some are like 'wow thats cool, didnt know THAT would happen' and others are like 'o no...why did THAT happen?'

Also, what would it make Ubi look like if the community was able to create a glitch/bug free experience? Just look at the map editor: most players think the stock maps are junk and Im inclined to agree. Its nothing but a sniperfest most of the time, and I seriously do NOT enjoy playing stock maps at all. Then take a look at some of the maps that our great community has created, both in a traditional African Far Cry 2 style as well as extreme customs.

IMO, it all came down to time. There was not enough time for the Dev team to get things the way they wanted, it was rushed and this is what we have. The best we can do is make innovative maps and continue to try new things with that AWESOME editor

Well i've got to say i'm astounded.

Dunia is quite possibly the most immersive, atmospheric and gripping FPS engine ever released.

The player animations and in game 'feel' are likewise stunning and there is so much room for RPG expansion while retaining a killer FPS base.

All this talk about why UBI are not releasing an SDK is straw clutching insanity.

There is no excuse for not releasing an SDK.

They're shooting themselves in the foot.

Other companies actively support their mod communities and it rewards them (and their clients/players) big time.

The Far Cry 2 Wishlist thread(s) here are made up of a typically consistent mantra of tweaks and features, the vast majority of which could be easily and trivially taken care of by the community - with the right tools/support.

Let's just state the obvious and say that the bloated and over rated Cryengine 2 would be a mere footnote in light of an as moddable Far Cry 2.

UBI - you've committed cultural suicide.

Unbelievable to intentionally sabotage the glowing potential of such a beautiful thing.

    *shakes head*

I've experimented a bit with the dedi server trying to take it apart with a hex editor to tweak things in ranked that we aren't trusted to touch, such as having 100 point DM games and so on, but to no avail. So far I haven't been able to change a thing.

I really, REALLY, REALLY hope you have a pointer or two, or maby 50, of which you could share with me, of just how to do that.

By goodness gracious me, I would KILL to know how to tweak some simple stats values for single player, in regaurds to how much ammo I'm limited to carrying, how visible I am when hidden by foliage, damage and accuracy values for weapons etc etc...

If you know anything, anything at all about how to do so, plese, share your wealth of knowledge. =P

Even nif it were possible, we cant publicize it here without getting in trouble for hacking or otherwise breaking the EULA.

BS. If a company is going to release a severely flawed game the least that could be done is to give the community the ability to fix it on their own.

Dunia is too new to relese a SDK to the community. Our SDK is the map editor. I love the editor and hate it all at the same time. Even on PLAYSTATION 2 FOR GODS SAKE we could add AI and missions etc.

i hate ubisoft for failing to give ANY support to this game, i really believe the community could have been huge and made some incredible mods, fixes etc to this game taht would have kept it popular for years

all i reall y want above all else is simple fixes for single player. i jsut cant believe that isnt possible
