I've completed the Assassin part and killed Al Mualim. Now I'm back at the lab, no one is there
and except looking at the different writing on the floor and walls with Vision Eye and checking Lucy's computer, there is nothing else to do! The other 2 computers are not accessible!
Is this really the end of the game? There must be some purpose of this whole lab story

go to your room and use Eagle Vision on the wall behind your bed.
This initiates the credits, then you can go back into the Animus if you want.

What do you mean by "initate the credits"?
I've seen the garbage writing on the wall but it doesn't tell me a thing, nor does it move me forward in the game!
I thought there was a second part that gave some
logic to Desmond being in the game. Or is he just a playable "menu".

Ohhh so you wanna know why they bothered having Desmond in it at all, all right

Basically, Ubisoft needed some way of introducing the whole Templar plot, but they couldn't just have you beat the game playing Altair the whole time and then just kinda throw in "ohh yeahhh in the future, the Templars are gonna try to find those Pieces of Eden and try to take over the world, good luck!"
So, in steps Desmond, someone from the present day which Ubi can use to
    A. act as the menu into Altair's life
    and
    B. tell the whole plot to, so you're not confused

If you want me to say it in the context of the game though, Desmond has all of Altair's memories in his DNA, so Abstergo used him to find out where the other Pieces of Eden are

Basically they put Desmond in because he has no idea of whats going on as much as you do so you relate and it makes sense for you as it makes sense for Desmond.

    I think the storyline sucks!
So all you do in the Desmond world is a preparation for the sequel? Paying 50 bucks for a game ending with "To be continued....."
My grandma would have build a better plot!
