Several times Assassin's Creed 2 has failed to save my progress in the game. I have no way to tell this is happening; I quit to the title menu normally, then exit to Windows, and when I come back I find I've lost between one and three hours of progress. This doesn't happen EVERY time, but it has happened about once a day since the servers came back online Saturday. I tried disabling the "save online" function in the Ubisoft Game Launcher, and that didn't help either.
This is extremely frustrating. Is this a known issue? Can anybody suggest solutions for the problem?

Hmmm..... I think the game fails to save when some Diamond rectangle Icon stops blinking, as told by others, as I don't have this game.
Anyway, I presume you must have already done this ? e.g. Go to 'C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher'. If you have the 64bit version of Windows you'll need to go to 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher'. Now Open the settings.ini file located here with Notepad, and search for the following line i.e. “SaveOnline=true”, and change it to “SaveOnline=false”. Now save this settings.ini file. Just check what's given under your settings.ini file ?
By doing the above method, the SAVES now should be located under the following directory, C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\Storage. e.g. 'C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\storage\[Enter some Random numbers e.g. ZW5naW9j]\4' etc. Btw, have you checked the 'Storage' folder ?
Anyway, You must also contact Official UBI SUPPORT, and tell them about this problem. You can contact them here:

I did file a ticket with support; they responded that the save had become corrupted, and my only options were to choose a new save file or start over. They closed the ticket, but I re-opened it to ask for ideas on why this keeps happening; I won't keep playing the game if it randomly rolls back my progress by 1d4 hours once per day.
Meanwhile, I've uninstalled and reinstalled on my side, just on the off chance something I had a corrupt game file somewhere.
Thank you for your response and your suggestions. I welcome any further ideas from you or the other forumites.

Hi,
How are you ? Well actually, I don't play this game so I can't help you further. But may I ask that you first create a NEW thread/topic for this problem, under the General Discussion Forum ? As more AC gamers browse this forum, so try posting your query here:
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/5251069024
If this is a known frequent issue, then other AC gamers might be able to give you some insight, if they too are facing this same issue. If they are NOT facing this problem, then maybe something needs to be done at your end, though I'm not sure. But in any case, ask other gamers out there. Doing this will clarify the situation.
If they tell you that, you have posted your Topic under the wrong Forum section, then show them this Thread, stating that you have already asked this query under the TECH Section.
Good Luck.

Actually I just saw this thread. See if the replies posted by 'rickatnight11' and 'Ninboo' can be of any help ? (Not sure though):
http://forums.ubi.com/eve/foru...1051016/m/3461071288
And keep on contacting UBI Support, and tell them about this problem, if you don't get it solved by yourself. Also make sure you always have full ADMIN rights, if using VISTA/7 OS. Disable UAC (User Account Control), if it creates any problem.
Daniel.

Daniel. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>Thanks for the link. I've already tried everything listed in that thread, but I'll share my solution there should I find one.
My gaming OS is Vista 64, and yes, I run in admin mode. (Bad security practice, but necessary for Windows, alas.) UAC is off. I also checked the required permissions on the Ubisoft Game Launcher folder, and they're pretty standard as well. Given the number of people experiencing the same problem, it doesn't seem to be an idiosyncrasy of my own setup.
I'm still waiting on a response from Ubi support. If they provide a solution, I'll post it here and in the other thread.
Ubisoft support is being profoundly unhelpful. I've received one response, simply telling me to load a previous save or restart the game; when I asked for suggestions on how to keep this from happening, or whether this is a known issue, they marked the ticket closed without providing any response.
I re-opened it and asked for suggestions, but they silently closed it again. I re-opened the ticket again, but I don't expect I'll have any better luck this time.
Apparently "ignore the customer until he goes away" is SOP at Ubisoft.
I had the same problem. As not to repeat myself, here is what I wrote to UBI support:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Hello,
I've just encountered a very nasty bug in AC2 - the whole Venice chapter didn't get saved! I've played many hours and finally, after the Flying Machine testing flight, it crashed. When I restarted I was reversed back to the Romagna chapter, many hours of playing earlier. First of all, I'd like to state my deep dissatisfaction with game not warning me about failing to save! Later I figured out that this blinking diamond icon not disappearing for some time was supposed to mean that, but how could I know? If a game that seems to follow the "autosave" rule FAILS: to save for some reason, it needs a BIG warning that the player should STOP playing now, as they're just wasting time.
So, to save myself from replaying the whole chapter of sequences, I downloaded a 100% save game but, alas, the game didn't allow me to return to the desired sequence. Why so? If I decide to replay some part of the game I have to replay all of it? It reminds me of 1990 and, sadly, not in a very nostalgic way. Many games can easily return to a saved spot and just let the player play on, overwriting subsequent saves, so why not this one?
I like the story so I sighed and started replaying the story from the moment it was saved. And yet another unpleasant surprise! I cannot skip the cutscenes! So, I have to rewatch all the content I've already seen for absolutely no reason. Another your game, PoP:FS didn't have this problem. Seriously, "unskippable cutscenes" is one of the most popular pet peeves among players, and yet your seasoned developers make such a - sorry! - childish design mistake? Come on!
All in all, I must say the bugs cost me many hours and I ask if there is some patch planned fixing this? Is the sequel (AC2:B) is going to have that fixed? I value my time and I don't appreciate wasting it. Replaying some programmer's mistake is neither cool nor fun. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
If someone can share the right save, please PM me. Now, unfortunately, I'm stuck with replaying the whole Emilio assassination sequence :/
