Have we hooked you as well, Tully? Wahoo!

The Spad 13 isn't too bad landing wise, I find. Sometimes, if it starts to groundloop, a quick burst of power as you apply opposite rudder can catch it, though you need to be careful not to overdo it. Landing accidents seem to be fairly endemic in RoF though, and you'll just get used to the invitable incident. They are rarely fatal, except in the Sopwith Dolphin which tends to flip over and decapitate the pilot (historical realism at its best - the trick is to duck down in the cockpit if it starts to go over, and stay 'ducked' until you exit the fllight)

As for setting up joysticks etc, at least it isn't DCS or something - you need relatively few assignments for the basics, and can set others as you find you need them - probably easier to learn that way too.

Takes a while to make friends with a new sim and evolve a control setup that suits you best. One nice feature is the individual response curves that can be set for each aircraft. It's a bit like wandering over to the hangar and having a quiet word with your rigger. Happy to share some profiles should anyone need it.

Yes please, that would be 'andsome. I think I'm PM'able.

Don't get too far ahead of the game.... I've just discovered Ghost Recon Online (free to play model) and it may take me a week or six to get bored / decide I suck too much at shooters before I come back to RoF

Well, things are progressing. I learned via some vids on youtube that I DON'T have to take full fuel or 40lbs of extra bombs I didn't know about. On the 4th mission in training where I have to kill the german balloon. While I stopped ramming it, I can't seem to bring it down even with 400 rounds per gun! Didn't think my gunnery was THAT bad, but I guess it is.. I'll keep working on it.

Yup - the balloons are tough - though the Spad balloon gun makes short work of them, unsurprisingly. Come at them from the side, rather than end on, and don't waste ammo shooting from a long way off - since they tweaked the dispersion, getting in close is even more essential. If the Syndicate server stats are right, I must have put about 140 rounds into one earlier today to bring it down. That was in the D.H.2 with its gun that always tends to jam at the critical moment. And then there was the fact that it was being winched down towards the flak as I shot at it, and the fact that their were Eindekkers lurking about - I ended up having to 'dogfight' with no ammo. Somehow I managed to get back to base with most of the D.H.2, though it was a bit holey, and I may have left bits behind.

Anyway Worf, keep at it - it does get easier eventually. And yes - reducing the fuel load makes a heck of difference in performance and handling. Don't take a full load unless you are feeling masochistic

BTW, for anyone who hasn't seen it, Jason has just put up a video of beta tests on the Hansa-Brandenburg W.12 floatplane taking off and landing - most impressive. http://riseofflight.com/Blogs/default.aspx

Great news now to try to land on water without flipping over.
Isn't it interesting that 777 studio's business model delivers on its promises and always comes up with new planes in the pipeline to 'sell' to its customer base, although if you purchase all the planes and add-ons it is getting to be an expensive hobby flying "Rise of Flight", with the weapons and field mods together being roughly the price of a new plane, choosing wisely is certainly a relevant issue.
I am eagerly waiting for the new map and the new features that are expected to be incorporated.
More free items would be a good move from the studio as a 'carrot' for its loyal users.
