translation... the best I could do anyway.

With carrying out itself of the activity of the Ing. Sergio Stefanutti near the S.To.I. (Society Italian Air Force, with center and school of pilotage to Castiglione of the Lago), in harmony, after the absorption from part of the Ing. Ambrosini Angel, with the ideas already expressed previously through the ligneo
power-driven glider S.S.2 of 1935 and the successive S.S.3 Duck (MM.372) of 1937, it was arrived to the S.S.4 (You know Stefanutti model 4), last evolution of a plan "canard". The idea of the Ing. Stefanutti turned out based on one entire metallic structure in light
alloy and covering in latten, in which the motor (a Isotta Fraschini Ace XI RC.40 from 960hp. ) it came berthed to one fuselage conceived on 2 longitudinals. The wings based on a bispar completed the structure, and an undercarriage front tricycle completely retratti them. Analogous situations were classified to front the vertical and
horizontal tail units. The armament, concentrated in the snout, totally free, it was constituted from 2 Mauser guns from 20mm. and a gun from 30mm. (never mounted on the prototype). The motor, posizionato to the shoulders of the cockpit, it set in action a pusher propeller tripala to variable step in
flight. The plan, that the military administration registered like MM.387, it came realized to the beginning of 1939. The 07/03/39 detached its first flight to Castiglione of the Lago to
the commandos of the Ambrogio test pilot Columbus. Stated the good behavior in flight the same test pilot demanded of
being able to carry out an other flight. During the new flight, carried out the 08/03, the pilot had to interrupt the test being tried to carry itself to
the landing on the same airport. During such maneuver, unfortunately the aircraft ended outside track against spinning of
trees. In the collision the motor block came projected in ahead provoking of
fact the dead women of the same pilot. The endured inquiry started established that the vibrations
transmitted from the motor to the metallic structure carried to the
separation of an aileron, same aileron that turned out to have been mounted in wrong way. Acquitted the aircraft, unfortunately the circumstances, that they saw lines up against an airplane therefore to the vanguard
the high commandos to you, they carried to the abandonment of the entire plan.

The attached photos, kindly granted from the sig. George Apostle, they regard: 1) the prototype, approval of â¾ front, on the field of Castiglione of the Lago, like for all the other images; 2) frontal sight from which the aerodynamic refinement of the entire
aircraft can be evidenced; 3) advanced sight from which the thoroughness of the plan can be
noticed; 4) posterior sight with in evidence the wing development; 5) particular of the nside with the canopy realized in an only piece
of plexiglass; 6) particular of the motor and the propeller.
