Weapons are only sold at blacksmiths. Indicated by a Hammer Icon on your map as well as your mini-map. Prostitutes will also appear on your map and you can hire their services by pressing the button that appears when you come into their circle, be mindful though that you will need to have the correct amount of florins. However, prostitutes are not accessible until you completed the mission, "Blending In" with Paola and blacksmiths won't usually have anything until you arrive to Monteriggioni then during the mission, "Casa Dolce Casa" you can access Blacksmiths...if you are still in the first or early in the Second Memory Book these can not be done yet.

Courtesans don't appear on the mini-map nor the full one.

The only markers that appear at great distance are the ones that continue the story, city markers, or ones you set yourself.
