Rumor has it that FS is a pet project of MS corporate founders.

Those guys love thier pet projects, and will take huge losses on them 'just because they can'. I don't think FS will ever go away. Besides, its the best world-rendering research project ever devised: it pays for itself and requires no tax-payer money.

...plus you might want to check out this link:

    http://www.flightsimonline.com

for some cool vintage multiprops if that's your cup of tea (I think these are for FS2004 only though - no CFS stuff there). I find the Howard 500 a bit too muscle-bound for my tastes, but their upcoming Beech 18 looks just awesome...

YOU MUST AVOID FLOAT PLANES AT ALL COSTS. ESPECIALLY NASTY IS THE FREEWARE MAULE FROM FSNORDIC.NET. I REPEAT: AVOID ALL FLOAT-PLANES IN FS2004!!!!

They are working on a new civ flight sim. No idea on another CFS title. Last I heard of CFS 4 it was being cancelled. FS200x has been a cash cow for them so not likely to be dropped.

The reason I know about FS2006 (maybe that or called FS10) is that I am interviewing for the program manager job for the project. ;-)

FS may be quite cheap, but some really good addons (like planes, sceneries) may cost more than the game itself. Of course you don't have to buy them, but they are MUCH better than "plain" game. Fortunately there are also many free add-ons, rating from poor to really great ones.

OT: you may like to try out FlightGear from http://www.flightgear.org/ - free opensource flight simulator. Don't expect it to substitute MSFS (not yet ), but it's free, so trying it won't hurt.
