Speeder canopy has to have been inspired by -109.

Looks a lot more like the Hs 129 canopy, and the basic concept is similar too.

As to the WWII influence, the first Star Wars attack on the Death Star is modelled very clearly on the air battle in Midway, which came out in late 1960s I think.

    cheers

Don't know if it was mentioned already but without a doubt, the Dehavilland dh.88 as to be in the top 3 if not number 1 hands down.

P.S. I think pic 2 is an RC plane but whatever you get the point.

Proof that the Brits can, on occaision, build a pretty aircraft.

    A rather infrequent occurance however.

Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder and so i think that a airplane that looks like a giant blood sucking insect may be beautiful in the compound eyes of a mosquito ?

Another exciting prototype that never made it to series production. The Dornier Do31 from 1967.

A jet engine V/TOL troop transport with space for 36 soldiers.

Technological a full success but nonetheless as cancelled as it was considered to be too expensive and of limited value in a defensive war against the warsaw pact that would not see much troop advancements on NATO's side.

    Three prototypes were built.
