getting to know my way around the sub now, I just regret my "shore leave" now with the grandkids, but at least I can show my medals off (actually one a couple!!)still playing the stock item with no mods and the realism low but getting to love the briney and the noise of the merchants cracking up, (glad its not just me whos sinking fast)
Welcome to the fleet mate. Sorry for the late reply. I've been recovering at the Naval Hospital at Honolulu from.....ummm, let's just say, someone tore me a new bunghole.
BTW, I played the stock version for a full year before moving on to any mods. Well, I just thought it would be more appropriate if I relegated myself to rookie status for the first year. Now, I've been promoted and am flipping burgers for the crew. They even let me peel the potatoes for the frenchfries. Gee, what a nice guy our captain is.
@Maverick: Ooh! thanks for reminding me. Now, where the heck is that old seahag? Haven't seen her since the war started.

    Welcome aboard.

If you play this game for a while, then it won't be long before you are permanently fixed to your monitor as you explore modded versions of the game.

But, not yet. You're not ready for that yet...

Spend some good, long time with the stock version first. I hope you have version 1.5 (it's shown on the lower right of the game's main menu when you load it). The stock version - again v1.5 - is an excellent game in it's own right, but boy does it get sweeter after a couple of the mega-mods!

    Welcome!

    Thanks All, nice welcome.
Think Im playing the 1.4 game have modded my dials to some Oak ones from subsim which was easy to do, will move onto (jsg) thingy later when I understand the "rar" bits.
having fun now I have found the important keys to remember but an emergency surface instead of dive is not recommended when a destroyer is above you when panic as set in!!
I know its only a game but I get right on edge at times ........dont know if my ticker can stand the tension at times

There is a patch 1.5 but it comes as part of the U boat addition.
SH4 Gold edition is the game and the addition. About 10 to 15 bucks on Amazon.com or other such.

It's like the old movie "Run Silent, Run Deep". RSRD
What they for got was Run Slow. RSRDRS

You can even go further than that, by using the dive key. I assume it's D in stock, but you must also manually level off, I play TMO and it's the A button, but you can check your shortcut keys using F1

Here is the thread that will make you a pro when you're ready.

Ducimas did a nice thread about dd evasion, really explains well for all versions of silent hunter.

Welcome aboard. You'll love the mods when you're ready. The graphics improve 200% and with TMO and the 3d interiors by vickers, that sub is sweet looking inside...course much harder than stock.

Thanks for the threads, were a really good read, I am doing OK with the stock version and sinking capitol ships now, and even living to fight another day, have a good crew now and just promoted and given medals and a flagan all round.
