After so long playing this game, I almost never get shot down by AI. We are talking maybe once a year. And now it's especially rare as I don't play nearly as much as I used to.

But yesterday I was being chased by an AI ace in a 109F4 and I tried to avoid by pulling into a hard horizontal turn. Usually they can't turn as tightly as a Russian fighter ( I was in LaGG-3-35 ) but for some reason he got lead and shot off my left wingtip. I had to bail but it was over friendly territory, luckily! I was terribly embarrassed with myself though. I mean it being an AI controlled fighter and all.

    I think F4 outperforms LaGG-3...
It is more maneuverable therefore you don't have to be sorry even if it is Ai, ace Ai usually pulls deflection shots like no other human consistently can. Going head on vs ace Ai is usually death sentence.

And there's part of your answer as well. Practice makes perfect, and rust comes quickly.

The AI pilots don't have much in the way creativity, but they are cold hearted deadly shots when the right situation arises, especially the aces & vets!

LaGG-3 35 Series vs. Ace AI Bf109-F4. No small wonder you got shot down. The F4s are markedly superior to any of the LaGGs.

I wouldn't be embarrassed by that at all.

But an S35 outturns the F-4, so it was a bit of a lucky shot the 109 got off. Even it being AI and all.

Sure, but any turn-fighter can only out-turn its foe so much up to a point. Keep that up and sooner or later it'll end up being slow and low. Easy meat by then.

Turn fighting is mostly defensive in nature.

Spiral climb owns everything more or less when you are in 109... LaGG-3s get heavily owned by 109s spiral climb. In such circumstances 109 will react better than LaGG whose maneuverability will be on par with semi dead cow.

This is news? Were you flying 1v1 because this happens to me all the time when I fly in missions with more than 4v4 because all the AI seem to focus on me while my wingmen are out looking at clouds or whatever.. I have had 8v8 situations where I had the entire second flight trying to shoot me down as I was tackling a member of the 1st flight.
