The thing is though the PS3, and 360 both use discs, and that is the main way console gamers play games is on discs.Originally posted by Nuclear_Wessel:
And yet look at the success of systems placed into Xbox Live and the Sony equivalent, not to mention Steam,Impulse and Gamers Gate on the PC. You may say that the PC market is very different from the console market, but from a corporate perspective their is no reason for this and therefore market convergence is inevitable.
The PSP Go is a downloadable only system, and of course it was a total sales disaster because most gamers will not a system like that, and they won't accept a system like that in Next Gen either.
The markets for Console, and PC games are very, very different. I will list some differences. Both the PC and consoles are gaming platforms, and technologically they are pretty much just PCs, the Xbox for example is effectively the DirectX-box.
1. The used games market for consoles is huge while there is no used market for PC games. If any company tries to take away our right to trade in our games they would face very stiff punishment from both Gamestop, and Console Gamers. If you haven't followed the console market closely you have no idea just how powerful Gamestop has become, and how much pressure they can apply along with Console Gamers who deman the right to trade in there games.
2. Most PC gamers pirate games while console gamers actually buy games. Now its true the used game market is huge, but console gamers still buy far more new games then they do used games, unlike PC gamers who just try to steal everything.
3. Finally most consoles gamers have a very, very strong preference for owning a physical copy of there games unlike PC gamers who don't really care.
It doesn't matter that they also use disks, its obviously a gateway technology; its very popular and convenient.Originally posted by dennis580:

There is infact a used PC game market as opposed to 'no used market' as you stated, no real need to elaborate on that...Originally posted by dennis580:

Once again you've demonstated the validaty of your opinions by supplying us with your completely un-skewed view of the world.Originally posted by dennis580:

A very small pecentage of PC gamers are actually pirated software users, an even smaller number are pirates. Of course it wouldn't matter even if what you said where true since the PC gaming market is massive in terms of sales.
A point you seem to have missed is that PC gamers and console gamers are the same market; they are gamers!Originally posted by dennis580:

The fact that you are claiming these massive market differences exist, whilst posting on the forum of a cross platform RTS (typically a PC genre), is quite ironic...

yes CD is still the primary use for gaming. however thats because digital download is still new. we are in the transition phase. think of cassette to DVD. it takes time. it will be somewhat slow but not anywhere as slow as you think it will be.
