    I recently rented some ventrillo slots and set up the server package, seems to work ok , I tested some recording for voice levels worked fine. I gave the port, password and my isp to a friend who downloaded and installed the client package. I can see him login and the icon change when he talks but we dont hear each other. Do I have to enter users manually into an allow file or something similar.?

    Ask him to run through the Test Hardware Wizard (if he is running XP). It is located in the Control Panel under the Sounds & Audio Devices icon. Once opened have him click on the Voice tab and at the bottom of that window he will see a link for Test Hardware. Now he can not be connected to your Ventrilo server while he runs through this.

    I have found that running through this Test Hardware wizard generally fixes any problems one might have with the microphone when trying to use programs like Ventrillo or TeamSpeak.

    Questions for him;
    is he voice activated or push to talk?

    Check mute button bottom left corner of the ventrilo window.
