    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

    High Flight

    Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee
    No 412 squadron, RCAF
    Killed 11 December 1941

    Heart Breaking…

Oh yes, it's always heartbreaking seeing vehicles which made families and nations mourning 60 years ago .

Its also very sad that the elegant machines which inspire such poetry and joy are designed with the sole intent of killing. If there is "anybody out there" they would be too scared to show their faces round here.

Nice pics. Bummer to see all that work, effort and ingenuity left out to rot like so much garbage. Shame about Spamburgler's Fan being a total knob too, but that can't be helped either.

Yep - seeing a load of warplanes being scrapped because they're no longer needed actually makes me feel pretty good.

It would be nice if one day the only place to see one was in a museum, at an air display or in a history book.

    Cheers,

Wow, imagine the wealth that went into designing, building, and flying all those machines. Machines with but one purpose, to kill people. Too bad humans can't harness that scale of ingenuity for doing productive things.
