Looking at an upgrade. Does anyone know the difference between the the Rampage 11 and the Rampage 111 Extreme (apart from the price)?

Looks like a beautiful pair of boards !I have an ASUS Maximus 2 Formula and like it -extra 'overclock-ability' over previous MSI P45 Platinum took many months to 'extract' but 'build quality' awesome .
I think the 3 Vs 2 main differences according to above link are SATA 3 ,USB 3 and triple graphics cards slots ...

Thanks ytareh. For the extra $100 I am not sure it would be worth it just for SATA 3, USB 3, and triple graphic card slots. I plan on adding a 5970.
Does your ASUS Maximus 2 Formula board have the same overclocking ability where you select the speed and evrything else gets automatically adjusted?

I have been looking at this board for a while, but I would be careful:

A lot of heat issues have been reported. Check the feedback at Newegg too. That was helpful. Here's another thread I have been following too:

I might even go with the Rampage iii Formula board instead, but I am still debating what to do. Hope this helps you.

Scary stuff Hopper64! I may just change my mind and go AMD with a different motherboard.

I would just be very careful and research this a lot before ordering something. I didn't think I would ever need to take off the Northbridge and Southbridge heatsinks and reapply thermal material on a MB costing almost $400. I'm glad I looked at those forums before buying anything.
Here's another forum I have looked at for this even though I don't overclock:

There's a thread for the RIII Extreme and the Formula too on page 2. Just looking over all this made me pause and think about it a great deal. Hope this helps you too.

Sadly ASUS has not been doing well at all for years. Crappy production with lots of faulty components shipping, bad support and whatnot.
The good reputation they once had is all but gone.
Have a look at ASRock instead. the X58 Extreme3 for example. ASRock is a former ASUS production company that has been turning out some great products for years Highly innovative, very good quality and low price. IMHO they took the lead over ASUS years ago.
I would keep in mind that hard drives and most peripherals have not changed. The SATA600 is about the electronic circuits on the drives/connection. It does not mean your drive(s) will deliver 600 MB/s Also, SATA, USB 3 and PCI will need to share bandwidth at some point, bringing performance in one or more parts down. SATA II already was many times faster than HD mechanics could deliver. You would have more success with a good SSD like the OCZ Vertex2. Even if you keep it on SATAII.
Because of the much faster response time (0.1ms instead of 15ms or more), and great read/write speeds (275MB/s or more) applications load much faster and system boot time decreases. The whole system reacts quicker making it feel much faster.

I have certainly moved away from the Asus boards.
The Asrock products look interesting and the price is certainly right.

Now that I think of it I DID remove the chipset heatsinks and change thermal paste -not surprisingly there was cheap crud under them. There is some kind of 'auto' overclocking feature on the Maximus 2 Formula but it doesnt have the option to go nearly as high as manual...

It seems motherboard 'champs' are very inconsistent these days ...the former Gods DFI seem in doldrums...MSI reasonably consistent in top 3...who were that real low budget crew who sneaked in in top spot out of nowhere ?Its hard to keep up with it all...thanks heavens for the internet!
