I heard that going into Scapa is safer from the east, since you have to elude destroyers and subnets. Apparently there's a dangerous minefield in the western entrance. However, i sneaked in using the Western channel, the one thats narrow and in the North a couple times, to bag 2 aux. cruisers and something else. Is that the channel with the minefield? or does the one in the south have it? I see C2's come out of there regularly, so it would appear not. Anyone?

It depends in the mods you've andhe version of game you're playing. Patch 1.4b adds some minefields, but RUB and IUB will really put your sub in harms way.

I only have 1.4b patch and no mods. So, is there a minefield there with these conditions? i dont want to find out the hard way

I ran into a net in Hartlepool, so I stoped getting close to harbours. Too dangerous!
But don't worry about mines. You've to hit them really hard to made them explode. You can head towards the harbour at TC and when you get time dropped to 1, get a glance with the periscope: you'll have either mines or nets.

About those nets.. know that bug that lets out a subnet impact sound when near a harbour and loading a savegame? Well, i once saved right before the net, and when i loaded the game, i ignored that screech. To my surprise my speed quickly dropped to 0 and i was taking damage. Got me scared that one time

I made the same approach as you into Scapa. I never saw a sub net either. Infact Iv never see one at all! Where are they?

I like to enter scapa form the west, surfaced at ahead flank, under the cover of darkness
Too bad the east enterance isnt modelled!
