I wouldn't mind the P-51. I just hope it doesn't end up like the one in Il-2. That thing woulda never made it past USAAF's trialing board...or whatever commision it had to pass to be accepted into service.

Insert obligatory 'The P-51 won the war' 'It turned on a dime in real life' 'It's 50's should be ripping apart tiger tanks' comment here.

I don't know why so many people have a problem with the Mustang in IL-2, its probably the best energy retention out of all fighters in the game and is uncatchable at altitude. You will gain so much of your initial altitude back in heavy boom and zoom runs compared to pretty much every other fighter. It certainly is not a dog.

Actually, I'm totally into the Eastern Front right now. Bring back the Shturmovik! And a flyable U-2.
considering how big a market russia is for maddox games i don't think the eastern front will be to long delayed.

i looking forward to fighting full real against la's, as they struggle to keep from blowing up their engines, while im flying an automated fw.

finally there will be a penalty for flying a light manuverable bird compared to a heavy automated one.

Who, me? I wasn't talking about the guns, or high-altitude performance. Truly, after looking at FMB, it looks like we won't be stuck with 2,000M or lower airstarts. So maybe we'll have some fun up high...tho I always sucked at it up there.

I've just felt that the thing felt wonky/unstable in many situations. I don't think any aircraft except the Avia-99 would be accepted with inherent stability issues.

...or is that the Avia-199? Memory fails.

Being from Ohio myself, I've always been partial to the Buckeye Blitz scheme.

    It's a pity the Hawk 87 in IL2 has such a poor 3D model.

IMHO, the current Il-2 depiction of the Mustang is a deliberate defacement of the real thing; the real Mustang did NOT require re-trimming for elevator and rudder for every 5 mph change in speed, nor was it remotely as fragile as depicted (actually, most engines --particularly the American made ones--are treated like they're made of eggshells as long as an ai backseat gunner is shooting at them).

Every pilot's account from 'back in the day' says very nice things about the Mustang's handling, which tells all but the very dense that in the context of WWII fighters, the Mustang's behavior in flight was benign and that it behaved predictably. I make no claims about its maneuverability at low speeds, but it was supposed to be a pretty stable gun platform and was second only to the Thunderbolt in dive accelleration (dive accelleration not even being modelled in the Il-2 Sturmovik game).

I think 1C probably took the P-40's characteristics and exaggerated them to comply with their own prejudices about the Mustang or possibly just to get even; the defacement coincided with the delivery of the 4.0x series of patches shortly after the infamous legal issues with the American aerospace comapany that shall not be named (and actually, given the way their fighters were treated by the game, maybe they were right to call in the lawyers). Most of us recall the constant complaints about the treatment of American fighters that the Soviets didn't receive via Lend-Lease, from the 'wobbles' that affected only certain aircraft to the ridiculous treatment of the fifty caliber guns ('box' vs pinpoint convergences, the business of each gun firing at exactly the same microsecond on different wings, among other issues).

The fact that some have mastered the in-game Mustang is a tribute to their individual skills and dedication, not to the fidelity of the Maddox flight model; harder is not always more realistic.

    cheers
