The story is a morality tale told in Russia with modern action effects. Dark vs Light fought as armies on the bridge of Justice until the Light leader couldn't take the slaughter any more and The Truce was made with Rules. So the Light has the Night Watch to keep the Dark Side in line and the Dark has the Day Watch to catch transgressions by the Light. -- And THEN we enter the story in Moscow, make sure to get the English-dubbed versions okay?
I could tell the story but that would ruin it. Past the setup above, the personal story begins but until the end of the the second movie you don't know how much the start really means. That's okay, the protagonist doesn't either even though a time or two he gets some idea and has his regrets.
There is involvement with vampires and multiple levels of 'the gloom' where the Others, Dark and Light can disappear into. There's different neat props and vehicles and some pretty fantastic stunts and effects (check the years each was released) though what clinched it for me was the story line especially how it tied in the end. This one woman in the red sportscar in Day Watch, LOL, a bit over the top and worth every second!

Why on earth would you get dubbed versions? Get the original language versions with subtitles! I've always hated dubbed movies. They just sound and look ridiculous to me, and you lose so much of the atmosphere as the emotion and drama of the actor's voices is simply removed. Man, I hate dubbed movies - unless it's cheesy kung fu movies, then it's pretty cool!!![]()
I've seen both, and would highly recommend them as well. The problem is, I only ever seem to catch the dubbed version of City of Men, which drives me nuts. I much prefer the Portugese with subtitles.Originally posted by danjama:
Have any of you guys seen the City Of God and City Of Man films? Keep meaning to see them, as well as the titles discussed above. I love World Cinema, really.
