Why would I debate you? I'm not stupid. Your post was a very deliberately constructed troll. For example, what else could you be doing when saying things like this? "While the Dems and Obama were busy fear-mongering" (nevermind the fact that the previous administration and sitting republicans have been exploiting the fear of "terrorism" for the past decade or the fact that it recently came out that DHS was ordered to elevate the "threat level" just before the '04 election) Or what about " and declaring sections of the country "enemies"? You've somehow ignored the fact that the entire cornerstone of Sarah Palin's campaign was that redneck Bible thumpers were "real Americans" and that "Northeast liberals" were not.
I don't really need to go on.
You're not fooling anyone. You're also not quite smart enough to pull off a troll like this.
If you're confused, this is the part where you play wounded innocent and act ignorant of what you're trying to do. You know, like every other time you're caught trolling.![]()
It's really not that puzzling. Extremists like Cajun believe that there's really some deep, fundamental difference between Republicans and Democrats when the differences are in fact very small. Ultimately, both parties are composed of rich people out to get richer and defend their own interests while giving lip service to whatever segment of the population can get them into office. The only real question is what kind of collateral damage the population sustains as a result.Originally posted by Pirschjaeger:
What I find puzzling is that America seems disappointed with both parties and yet as far as I know no independents have won anything.
Both parties collude to keep third parties irrelevant. The absolute worst thing that could happen for either one of them is for the two party gridlock to be broken, and they both know it.
Campaign finance is a big issue. Even before the recent developments that basically allow corporations to buy political candidates came to pass, both parties relentlessly abused PACs for funding. If you run a massive corporation and want your agenda to be pushed, you finance one of the two parties most likely to win, not a third party that most likely will not win and will most likely be hostile to your interests. Since the Republicans and Democrats have the largest war chests, they're able to drown out any competition in any national campaign. And this says nothing of the other advantages the sitting parties have bestowed upon themselves (for example, incumbent politicians do not have to pay postage for campaign-related mailings whereas challengers do. The system is rigged against newcomers.)
Independents sometimes win local elections where financing is far less of an issue: mayors and such, but it's rare to see an independent Congressman.
The system is broken and horribly corrupt. It's an utter perversion of what it was meant to be, and it really does sicken me to see people like Cajun treating it like a sporting event while being completely ignorant of what the whole farce represents.
Eventually this infighting and corruption will run this country into the ground, just as it has to every republic before. I can't wait for that day, because it means that we will finally be able to start fixing what needs to be fixed and join the rest of the world with a modern system of government. Hopefully this will be after the time of the Boomers so that we can remove the vast majority of this religious nonsense from politics while we're at it.

This election means just what the last one meant. People want real, positive change. These swings from ultra left to ultra right accomplish little. We need someone to lead this country back to a common middle ground where we have always been the most successful.
There are independents and other parties out there, but IMHO the media concentrates mainly on the Democrats and Republicans, and unless someone comes out of the woodwork with some kind of message or event that resonates no one will ever hear about them. For example, Jesse Ventura became Governor of Minnesota in 1998 and was not a member of either the Dems or GOP. I think there are one or two senators that became independent while in office as well, but ran as one of the big party candidates.
But, it's a two-party system here, and it seems like it will never change. Looking at the Governor race here in California, the Dem and GOP candidates were way ahead of everyone else.
Two sides of the same coin, IMHO.
The moronic inferno has had a icy blast of water dumped on it. When I saw that Reuters photo of a black man going down on his knees by Obama's SUV two days ago it was clear some portions of the country were stark staring mad, and only a thundering correction can concentrate our minds. First stop on undoing the madness is a demolition of TARP, "too big to fail", supporting thousands of unsupportable mortgages, and slashing programs intended to bribe the electorate in typical machine politics style.
Get our fiscal house in order (by 2030?) and once more embark on the same folly when we are again fat, happy, and incorrigibly stupid.

"The moronic inferno has had a icy blast of water dumped on it". Come on Leit, you can do better than that. Read this: George Orwell 'Politics and the English Language' 1946, you might learn something.

So you can't defend the current regime without bringing up the previous administration? Typical strawman. Fascists, Marxists, dictators, despots, anti-intellectuals are all ideas and movements that are opposed to conservatives like me, and I'm quite happy with that. That you find me extremist doesn't surprise me at all.
And it's truly hilarious that you describe my post as "a very deliberately constructed troll", since it's format is based on the the Lefty posts on this board and others.I just plugged in some conservative views instead of Lefty poo.

I'm far from confused, since your attempts to smother any attempt to defend myself or debate by trying to accuse me of "playing wounded innocent" are clearly transparent, sad, and designed to insulate yourself from any facts or points that make you feel uncomfortable.
Your rulebook was written by Saul Alinsky, so if you think *I'm* not fooling anyone...![]()
