The map drawing options includes a tool called a 'compass' naturally i expected this to include bearing as well as range, but it doesnt. All it does is produce a circle with a range line.

Surely I'm not expected to keep placing a protractor on my screen every time I want to make manual firing calculations?

    Have i missed something?

nope, you havent missed a thing, this is the nth thread asking for a protractor.

    we need a protractor!!!

I've been using a real-life plastic Helix protractor, putting it on my screen. Have to say it doesn't work very well, bloody curved monitor screen doesn't help.

some other map tools would be nice too...

ah thats cool....at least that means we'll get one ..'very' soon hopefully.

I dont have a proper protractor so I had to improvise...used a circular piece of card taken from the back of a car tax disc holder and used the bearings on the attack map to mark it.

Didn't come out too accurate though as it was difficult to stop it sliding slightly while i was trying to mark it

haha, a tax disk holder, thats funny

well i've got a 360degree protractor, but the thing has a "magnified" section in the middle. of course, this works just perfectly when you're drawing angles on a piece of paper, but put it on my monitor and you can't see the centre! argh! :s

oh well, its more accurate than no protractor at all, I suppose, I was just using it to some effect.

another of the map tools I would like is something that can convert speeds to distances, on a ruler. Of course, I could do this on a calculater, but I should be able to just use some dividers or something. It's harder to do right now because speeds are in knots and distances are in kilometres. And my calculator's run out of batteries!

I'm off to Staples tonight to buy myself a protractor. I must admit, as an ex-draughtsman I feel a bit ashamed that I don't have one, LOL.

My gripe is that they put the bearing indicator on the TDC/map screen, but didn't put a bearing indicator on the main map screen.

    GIVE US A PROTRACTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ruler and the compass should both display the bearing you are drawing.

We also need distances in nautical miles- not kilometers!

    aye!

putting the map units to nautical miles would be MUCH better!

The question is why make two maps where both functions (navigation and attack) need each other's data respectively to provide all the necesssary tools to the captain to make calculations.
