Wow...I just did a fresh install of Windows XP Pro, and managed to find a copy of SP2 on Microsoft's website (no small miracle, I say!). Since installing it, I've had programs stop working out of nowhere, then get "stuck" on the list of processes--even if I do "End Process" nothing happens. Furthermore, once something of this nature has occurred, I can' even shut down! The computer simply stops shutting down after ending a few programs. At this point, nothing works! I can Ctrl-Alt-Delete any more, nor can I resume the shutdown sequence; I have to manually reset or turn off the computer. Just a few minutes ago, after one of said restarts, my tray programs wouldn't load. AIM is the only program that started; there are at least 5 more programs (including my antivirus) that should start up right away.

This makes me very nervous...I'm going to attempt to track down SP1 and go back to that, because at least then I could run everything with no difficulties. It seems very strange to me that something like that would cause so many problems (go look at the list on MS's website to see all of the logged program incompatibilities and such up to this point). Suffice it to say, it seems that there is still a ways to go, either on MS's end, or on the part of developers to make sure that everything is compatible with everything else...we wouldn't want to see it....*cough* recalled *cough cough*
