In a recent edition of Time - the one with Darth Vader on the cover - George Lucas mentioned that his next project will be a movie about the Tuskegee airmen. No details beyond that, but I thought this community would like to get a heads up.

Well, let's hope he does a good job of it. Because the last one that was made was crappy, despite having Larry Fishburne in it.

At least we know we'll have CGI for the 109s instead of *gag!* H-1112 Buchons .

Agree. I saw the HBO Tuskegee Airmen the other week and was disappointed. It had its moments, but the budget was clearly too modest to generate a truly memorable piece of work involving this type of subject matter.

Here's hoping the next one does this story justice.

    Sounds promising.

My only request...no climactic attack by P-51's on the Berlin trench trying to shoot a torpedo through the Fuhrerbunker exhaust port.

Tallyho, I was just about to post about this article. He said he would like to do it right, now that the Star Wars story is finished. It's not a definite so don't expect too much, but it is very cool that he has a strong desire to extend his movie making ability to the Tuskegee pilots.

Believe it or not, the Tuskeegee story is a very big project to try and do. I'm not sure the story could be done in 2 or even 3 hours... now, a word from our sponsor...

Let's hope Lucas keeps his mitts out of the directing part of this project. He's great at visualizing and making special effects extravaganzas but he's terrible at directing actors. If you only went by the 2 prequels you'd think that Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor were amateurish at best... and I think they're 2 of the most talented actors in Hollywood.

Maybe George could bankroll and executive produce a project like this... but please, stay out of the director's chair.

    Regards, Goshikisen.

I wonder if this will be an original script or they're adapting a book because I can't think of anything non-fiction that came out recently (i.e. since 2000) that deals with the Tuskegee Airmen.

There is that book written by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (yes, the basketball player) about an African-American armored unit that came out last year, but nothing about the TA.
