Forgive my ignorance please, however I was wondering something about maps in the sim....Correct me if I'm wrong, yet aren't some of the .SFS files the maps we have in the sim?

If so, I recall IanBoys saying recently (could be wrong here too) that he was not sure if Norway and more importantly Burma would be included in the coming patches...

    SoooOOooOooo.......

If IanBoys has the work done and is willing to share it, couldn't we simply download the maps alone adding them to the main directory, it not changing the version and those not having them simply unable to fly not able to see them?

Now that may be a great over simplification, as it may require an alteration for the FMB to see it and so on.......So I ask, can it be done or does it take Maddox Games to do it?

It would alter compatibility within a version. So my version 4.07 might not have maps your version 4.4 does. Only 1C:Maddox Games can authorise a version change, sooooo....

I think there is a master file that acts as the index for the .SFS files. The new map would have to referenced, ie: linked to the interface menus.

    What Skycat said and more.

The .sfs files are not in the raw map format. Only 1C:Maddox know the correct formatting technique. Once correctly formatted some other files have to be edited so that the game and FMB know the extra files exist and are included in the game.

In addition, there is atmospheric/weather data that needs to be added to the terrain and scenery data generated by Ian before the map is ready for inclusion in the game. Again, 1C:Maddox need to do this work if I understand the process correctly.
