You can physically remove the soundcard from the pc, or perhaps even inactivate it in the device manager.

Does your motherboard have the nforce chipset? If so, uninstall the nforce drivers as Delphin suggested. You never know...

What I don't understand, is how can it be the drivers that give the blue screen.

I don't get any blue screen or any errors whilst playing my other games (Call of Duty. Call of Duty United Offensive, Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield 1942, IL-2 Forgotten battles Aces Expansion pack)

    Surely you mean "Hardware acceleration".

    "fan acceleration"

Control panel -> Sounds and audio devices -> Audio tab -> Advanced (under Sound playback) -> Performance tab -> Hardware acceleration

I guess you could do the same for video too...

Display properties -> Settings tab -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot tab -> Hardware acceleration

I have to lower video hw acceleration one notch to be able to capture frames in PowerDVD, so perhaps this'll do it.

The fans do not accelerate once the PC has started. You cannot even control the acceleration of the fans using software.

An example of a hardware accelerator is the GPU. Normally the CPU would handle the graphics, with the use of additional software.
Cranking up hardware acceleration enables Windows to use its magical drivers to make the PC perform better.

The PC does not perform better if the fans are accelerating. On the contrary, if they are accelerating, they are drawing large amounts of power - power which could've been put to better use by the system. It's a binary world. Either it's performing, or it's melting.
