Phil C...Thanks for that link...It looks pretty cool...
The one boat I'm using right now is a small 18" Riviera - a shake in the box kit, by Kyoto, I believe. I also have a Dragen NR 582 that's half-built, and a Dumas 30" Star class, that's still in the box....One of these days I'll get back to work on them...

Not really. I just find it amasing that people are so shocked when someone gets killed doing something very dangerous. Mountain climbing, skydiving, car racing, they all have a certain amount of risk. Sooner or later someones going to get hurt, or dead.
Its like when some nasty evil person dies and everyone now stands around talking about what a great person he "was".

Not sure what your saying but, my point is that if people are "willing" to do dangerous things they should consider that they might well die doing it. I'm not a skier, but that doesn't strike me as being all that dangerous. Unless its that "Extreme Skiing" No way would I do that!!!

And there you're talking about the person themselves and their attitude toward risks.

Their family and friends would definitely think otherwise! However, with the exception of just about all auto racing up until the mid 1970's risks are properly mitigated. You certainly don't seek to go kill yourself and try to prevent it actually.

And when being good at something risky is a part of a person you love, it would be a crime to take that away from them and actually lose part of what you love. That's just plain selfishness, provided the person is in their right mind, has the ability to do it successfully and realizes the unavoidable risk.

I live a couple of miles from one of the busiest skydiving venues in the country. We crater a couple a year, but that doesn't make 'em crazy! Ok, just a little crazy.

A little crazy..?? I say A LOT...There they're playing the numbers...and somebody is gonna get the "winning" one...
I used to fly for pleasure (private p's license) 'till it dawned on me that I might buy the big aerodrome in the sky, no matter how good I might be at it, leaving wife and kids in the lurch...I just loved doing it, but I stopped that nonsense....

??? Most family and friends try to defend someone they know and love even when that person put a gun to their head and pulls the trigger. I'm not sure what this has to do with what I am saying.

Thats not what I am saying. Anyone can do as they please. BUT, if they die doing it why does everyone seem so shocked they died? They took a risk and lost. They did everything they could not to die, they didn't have a dead wish, but they are dead because they dealt with something dangerous and that danger caught up with them.

Aman...this is what I'm talking about. They have done everything possible to make sykdiving save. Few can argue with the fact that it is safer than when people first started doing it. But when you do something that has mans hand in it somewhere, something will go wrong, that much we can count on. No matter what we do, driving a car at 200 MPH in a crowd is bound to go wrong at some point. Flying is a safe form of travel, the math shows that. But put enough planes in the air and one of them is going to crash.
What I don't understand is why everyone seem so shocked when it does.

Thanks nohunt1, this is the meaning of what I am saying.
People can do as they please, take any risk they want, but better be willing to die for it.
Bad drivers, drunk drivers, work hazards, illness, we will all die from something, no secret here. But put a guy in a car at 200 MPH in a crowd of other cars all inches away from each who gets killed, by either his action or someone elses, and people stand around asking "How did this happen"
