It seems that the watch Officer on my boat can't see, ships, more than a few miles away, even though the green bar is maxed?

It would seem that in good weather, on a clear day, he/they should see ships from much further away.

What are all your findings/opinions regarding this?

Is there a way to mod this distance, in clear weather, with a good watchman?

I'm not quite sure what this green bar is, but I do know that the WO is rather useless after patch 1.3.

Nukem... green bar is the vulnerability of your boat. As in close encounters with enemy warships or a/c, it will change to red. It's kind of a cheat but can be done away with in the reality settings, as most do.

Also it's the sonarman that's a mute with 1.3... not the Weapons Officer, he's fine.

The Watch Officer is like the rest of the crew.. the more he's used the better he gets at his job. Don't use him when surfaced and see how poor the rest are at spotting targets. He is an important necessity when surfaced, as he orders the flak and deckgun crews to man their weapons and orders the targeting.

The efficiency of the station or compartment. Full green reflects maximum efficiency.

Now I'm confused. I know of the latter, but play on 100% and haven't used the former. I assumed the first post was referring to the former, but it seems I was in error.

I was under the impression that the Weapons Officer was known as the WEP and that the Watch Officer was known as the WO. Speaking of which, the WO has been found to be blind on certain systems following the installation of 1.3.

I used to bo a lookout on a ship and MK1 eyeball no matter how mush xp you have can only see so far. I think the longest I have spotted a contact at was about 3000yd and that was a hugh cargo ship that was hull down.

now in the game my WO(when his lazy butt) is on watch spoted a ship at 8000m. Thats about 5 miles or 4.5NM (1NM=2000YD)
