You guys need to check out the Revell 1:72 scale XII. It is almost 3 feet long. Very detailed for a Revell. Plus the have kits to make interior on it and also brass fitting you can buy. Just type in Revell 1:72 scale u-boat in search and you will find several site with it.

OK, three C batteries are sinking the model and you got all air space you can in the hull already...I have another idea. Change the batteries to AA or AAA. They won't last as long, but the weight decrease will be huge. Of course, you'll need to charge the battery holder, but it sounds like you have a lot skill in fabricating parts anyway. You could get rechargable AA or AAA batteries too. You could even wire in a single rechargable 4.5 volt battery (someone has to make one of these.) We have a chain store here called Batteries Plus that carries every battery and battery pack imaginable.

I had the same model years ago. Different brands of batteries weigh different amounts. The place I was just working at recently had these C and D cell batteries for us to use in our flashlights that were extremely light compared to say a Duracell or Energizer. I wish I could remember the brand name, but they also had a very short life span compared to a "name brand" battery. I am going to suggest holding a pack of Rayovac or some other "less popular" brand in one hand and a pack of the ones you already bought in the other hand and see if you notice a big difference. The batteries I was speaking of had silver, blue, and either red and/or yellow on them.
