Just letting my personnal input: Loved it m8. Thanks for all the effort there.
Hope you can survive your wifey anger
One question tough, why mpg and not other more friendlie format, xvid, divx?

Cheers guys
The reason the format is in mpeg is simply because 1)that was the output available on Adobe Premiere Elements, and 2) I don't know really how to do it any other way. I'm a noooobie so I didn't really know how to publish it to everyone's taste. I'm getting my friend to put it on DivX. My movie says it all but I'm not strong technically (I mean how many self-respecting IL2 movie makers use a cheap and nasty camcorder to capture clips from screen like me?)
You would have thought that my wife, who's an animator developing Playstation 3 games, would help me out here. Ironically, she really hates me playing computers, and wants nothing to do with machinema. Maybe she is hinting that I should spend more time with my family and I should stop making films.......

lol, snatchio, machinema is best suited to the lonely bachelor. And if you aren't one yet, you may end up being one if you're not careful
Anyway, play with Fraps to capture your clips instead of your DV Cam, and Virtualdub to handle your compression. You should be able to output from Premiere in uncompressed avi which you then drop into virtualdub for compressing.

I looked on FRAPS website and the maximum resolution is 1152 x 864? My screen is 1920 x 1200. Do I get to choose which bit of screen I record for composition purpose?
Are there any other screen capture softwares in the market?
Also, I noticed that the best screen resolution for the game is around 1400 x 1000 (I think) which means that when I play, the images are stretched sideways. Is there a way of correcting that? Do I just play on the resolution that has a ratio nearest to my screen?
There's so much to learn on the IL2 movie! I can't even start thinking about skinning.

Persevere with FRAPS, it is the preffered choice. With FRAPS, you will never get a smooth fps at 1152 x 864, and you will have HUGE avi files captured. Most of us capture at 800x600, and as long as you have your quality settings high (especially Antialiaising at least at 4x) then it will look great.
Look at the other movies around here. They are captured at 800x600 or less, and don't you think they look great?
Watching other movies will help you learn good techniques. The good thing you have now is originality, and that is a BIG plus
Anyway, here are a selection of movies worth watching, and links to the appropriate threads where you can download them, if you haven't already?
My recommendation is 'Requiem', it's really old but a classic and what first inspired me. 'Come With Me' is great for action. 'Mitchell' is just a masterpiece of a kind of documentary. And 'I Promise' is the best story type movie.

Makes me feel like a young noob, looking back through the old forums.
No offence NTESLA, and the others (Mystic, Pawnee, and many more). I only scanned back a few pages in the forum to point our new friend in the direction of some good examples!
So, where is that movie hosted that you won the prize with NTESLA? Can't find it anywhere, and it is way before my time. It used to be on Wiley/Doolittle's web site, wasn't it?
Here is all I managed to find by you on the forums, just over a year old! Watch this snatchio - NTESLA is also a great one for mixing real people into movies. Check out the Few' trailer as well, of course

Thanks for the reference list Joe-90. I do have half of them, but I always wished someone would make me a list of good ones because there are so many out there and not all are worth sneaking out of my share of childcare to watch.
Don't worry NTESLA, you might have been on the old scene but I know of you very well, because your interview on Airwarfare.com is what got me into IL2 movies. The only link that still works on that page was 'Four Horsemen' and notice the homage I pay to that story line in my film? If you still have working links to all the films mentioned on http://www.airwarfare.com/AWX/featur...ws/ntesla.htm, I would love to see them. (It took me ages to find Requiem, but the rest I still haven't got hold of.)
They maybe old, and the graphic cards might have been slower then, but the story and directing stands the test of time. Like in Star Wars, Episode IV beats the pants off Episode I despite the 20 year lag in technology. Mind you, that makes you sound really old because your original piece was only 3 years ago!

Joe is 100% correct. No matter how fast your computer is you should never captured any higher then 800x600. The website below has some of the top movies from several years ago. Two from Davinci, one from ShadowSix, two from Scragbat, Requiem is there, and two from the Chinaboys.
All of these movie are excellent.
These movie were capture at either 800x600 or 640x480.
Link to these above movies
Here are link to "The Entertainer", and "Come with me"
