Lunges have been difficult for me to score consistently on too. Despite being told to lunge lower, I found that if I didn't lunge lower, I'd score better. I tried watching the trainer and matching my head movement to hers more than anything else. A diagonal head movement seems to work well for the single leg lunge. Very flat and horizontal movement for the side-to-side lunge. Then, try to make the rest of your body do lunges that fit your head. I have to say, I wasn't expecting to "play" an exercise game, but figuring out tricks like this seems to help on the score. Not sure it's good exercising, though. I guess anything is better than nothing, right?
1) I can confirm that you CAN unlock a new level in Cardio even if you get a very low score in a particular exercise. Today I unlocked Cardio 1.3 despite getting mostly 0-2% on "tap side tap back", and getting around 47% overall in that session. Most of the other sessions in Cardio 1.2 I could do fine. I can speculate that lower scores slow the rate at which you get unlocks, but I can positively confirm that they will not stop them.
2) I have not tracked it clearly to confirm for certain. But I really don't think that calorie counts are directly correlated to scores. I could be totally wrong... but I actually think that they might really have something to do with the amount of movement that the controller sees. I am fairly sure that I have gotten pretty much the same calorie count on two sessions (identical) sessions with different scores. But this is another instance where the game opaque and the documentation is insufficient, which leads to wild speculation.
At first I was having problems keeping in rhythm (not just the lunges but almost everything) but I read in a review that when you wear baggy clothes it has a harder time reading your body movements...so I started working out in my boxers instead of a t-shirt and sweats. My percentage did increase. If you wear clothes that are tight fitting it will read your movements just that much better. worked for me!Originally posted by Alnark:
Dang!
For some reason, the most basic move of a single lunge has serious problems being tracked for me in this game. I can get 100% on one side, then under 60% immediately after on the other side.
Forget the back and forth lunge altogether!
I've been having a terrible time getting the game to really track my left leg. Lunges seem to have the worst of it. I have my main light source coming from the left and even when I turn that off it still seems to have trouble keeping me in sync with the trainer, even though on screen I seem to be spot on.
So you're all saying it's most likely just my bodyshape/other parts of my body aren't doing it right? My body is...well..big...which is why I got this game to start losing weight, but I'm kind of oddly shaped, would that be part of the problem?
When I do leg curls, it always picks up my right leg fine, but when I go to my left is when I get out of sync. I wear sweatpants and nothing baggy. I'm just worried it might be my Kinect or my room set up. I don't seem to have my problems with other games.
Thanks for any help or advice.
@JaseDakota I can't figure it out either. Your lighting source isn't the problem because the image they draw from is the infrared (I usually play in the dark so I'm pretty confident about this). Even during the same routine this morning I went from 100% on side lunges to 64%. Tried leaning forward, changing my foot position, then just said screw it and did what I knew was right.
Earlier in this thread I brought up getting 0% on a whole workout vs. 100% and the calorie difference. From another conversation I added a variable of doing jumping jacks the entire time. Turns out I burned more calories than the normal workout while still getting 0%. Doing 4 minutes of jumping jacks also felt a lot harder, so I'll give them credit for some correlation.
So if there's one thing I think players should try to internalize is that if they're getting close to good form, or feel comfortable with their form, the game is going to give you the calorie credit and you're going to get a good workout. Someone else brought up that you will still progress in the routines even with low scores (I haven't tried this out myself) so basically if both are true then there's no penalty for the game not tracking you perfectly. Ignore is and feel the burn!
I hope that helps and good luck.
I made and interesting discovery over the weekend that may be helpful. I usually don't have very much trouble with one side not doing as well as the other (exception noted below) but I was doing the cardio boxing class over the weekend and my right side punches were not registering as they normally do. I was a bit annoyed and perplexed by this so I had a close look at the Kinect. I noticed that it had been pivoted ever so slightly, possibly during dusting or by being inadvertently touched. After I realigned it perfectly parallel with the shelf on which it sits the problem went away.
Exception: when I first start an exercise in which my right leg is naturally somewhat stronger and more coordinated then my left it takes a few times doing the exercise before my performance even out on both legs.
