Hmmm... I haven't read all replies, I think there is more than one other thread like this, but here's my view:

    I want both!

SH3 official expansion pack with what most of us want (wolfpacks, really working milkcows, new orders etc etc)

    AND

SH4 - well, I liked SH1 though it has been many years now, since I played it! But I hope they will release it without the same bugs as SH3 had: crew on bridge underwater, watchofficer not going on deck with the rest of the watch crew etc etc<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

The market for SubSims is strong; ?.otherwise, UBI would not have sunk the development money into Silent Hunter 1, 2, 3, and now 4. ?..It?s now time to ?Do It Right?!

??I think we need to start encouraging UBI to drop the piecemeal, ?Atlantic vs Pacific? approach to game offerings, and produce the ?Final Solution?.

They need to produce ?SH5: WAR BENEATH THE WAVES1939 -1945?: ?.It would be the SubSim that would let you command any boat, for any navy, where ever those boats were actually used in action. (?or in any scenario that would have been historically possible.)

I think the economic success of such a sim would be a given: ?.The ?Market Demand? is there; ?.the sales of the Silent Hunter series, the existence of these forums and the whole, vast ?modding community? demonstrate that.

The talent to undertake the task also exists: ??All UBI has to do is look on their own forums to find true ?programming craftsmen? who would throw themselves passionately into such a task.

The tools, talent, and market demand all exist right now: ?. All that?s needed is a project manager at UBI with some real vision and foresight!

Note that this thread was actually created way back in 2005 when we didn't even know if there was going to be another game in the series.

It would probably be more sensible now that we know SH4 will be set in the Pacific to ask for a U-Boat/Atlantic expansion disc to this game especially since the graphics engine etc have all been updated since SH3.

Also the devs have specifically stated that large parts of SH4 have been rewritten to allow for future expansions. Perhaps they are already thinking along these lines?

Also if we started a petition/pledge to buy we could perhaps encourage Ubi to take our proposal seriously and this would perhaps ensure that "our" devteam did not get split up again as happened at the end of SH3 development.

We could also perhaps ask for other expansions eg...

    Playable destroyers
Convoy commander in single player mode
    Playable British Subs
    Playable Japanese Subs etc

I don't know about you but I'd happily give up to £20/$40 for each one of those expansions.

I'd choose SHIII expansion pack. Just not that into the Pacific theater.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yes, ??I had indeed noted the original post date. (It was rather interesting to see how events unfolded, in relation to some of the early opinions and predictions.)

I too would happily pay $40 - $60 US for the expansions you mentioned: ?.. for that matter, I would happily pay $189.95 US for an ?SH5? if such a package were ever offered.

If you stop and think about it, the cost of the software is absolutely trivial compared to the cost of the computer system required to run it!!!

I think it would definitely be in our best interests to let UBI know how many prospective purchasers there are for such a complete sim! (I, for one, would be willing to send an advance deposit.)

Yes, if we gave our money directly to Ubisoft rather than though middlemen online/offline stores etc they would get a much greater return on their investment and this would make the expansions much more viable.

In much the same way that EA has created addons for the Battlefield 2 series.

Geoffwessex, aren't you being a bit harsh? The USA and Germany also ignored the Schnorchel, until the heavy losses suffered in the first half of 1943 made the Kriegsmarine resurrect the idea. What ISless understandable is that the RN ordered the snorkels to be removed from the RNethN subs in Britain- and still less understandable is that the RNethN complied instead of telling the RN to get stuffed.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
