    BTW the Me209 record breaker and the proposed Me209 fighter were completetly different machines . They just had the same name.

    Certainly and I think Mtt's attempt was more of an "I told you so" to address RLM insistence than a serious bid for a new propeller fighter.

    To the uninformed it must have seemed perplexing why you just cannot hang some guns on the world record holder and call it good. Holding out a complete redesign with little improvement in performance just highlights the technical limitations of propeller aircraft greasing the political machine's acceptance of the new fangled jets on the horizon.
