Hi all,
In the past, I've been a scale aeromodeler and also a scale plastic kit modeler.
The last plastic kit I made was about ten years ago. And crash fatalities of various aeromodels caused me to give up even earlier with the flying variety!
One thing I've never tried is to create a model setting for an aircraft, ship or tank etc.
But today I created a scenario for my model of HMS Ark Royal. This is a model of the Royal Navy WW2 aircraft carrier.
This is my first attempt at this and I accept that it has some way to go to be impressive
How about posting some of your own?
This is not a thread to compete with the long running 'Who Here Does Model Planes' thread but just an addition.
Here's the Ark !
Free virtual beer to the first poster who cracks the secret of my photo
Best Regards,
MB_Avro.

Good guess guys
Like I said, I was trying to create something other than a model on it's own.
The Ark Royal in the photo measures 20 cms. The detail is superb.
Here's another angle. A slightly too high deck-landing angle perhaps?

I haven't really set up my planes in a "realistic" setting, but I do like to photograph them at low angles and in sunlight.
Maybe if I find a good pic of an empty airfield with the right angle and lighting I can photo-shop my birds in.

Stunning

That's all I can say.
I will have to go back to the most BASIC drawing board.

Nice suggestion this thread.
I like to visit the 'Who Here Does Model Planes' thread so this could be a nice addition to it. As I am not a modelmaker but like to fool around a bit with my photo editing program I took the liberty to edit your second image.
Cheers, U.

Here's a suggestion guys:
Try a forced-perspective technique.
For example this shot form Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the Gobi Desert scene.
In the photo the ship model is only a few feet from the camera while the men and helicopters are actually very far away.

Wow I thought those pics were real and I was thinking: why did this guy post photos of 'real' planes? Then I went back and looked again. Man those are good. Just put your model in front of a background and the real sun light makes it look totally real.
