    Hi everyone!

I was off-line for a while and saw the new posts on the current IL2 movie makers (film makers) situation and the way forward.

Was wondering if the forum could host a movie competition to inflame some excitement here.

    Suggestion:

"˘ Movie to be 4min long,(5min, 6min whatever but should not be tooooo long)
"˘ Need a host person who is the administrator and movies to be submitted to him
"˘ The administrator will present the movies to the forum but the producer's name to be kept anonymously
"˘ Voters to be registered members of the UBI IL2 family of forums, every member has 2 votes. It must be easy for viewers to vote, simple vote page linked to the administrator. Maybe to be viewed on a streaming viewer, many people dislike the effort to download?
"˘ Movies to be submitted 2 months (1 month?) after launch of competition
"˘ All votes to be sent to the administrator at certain cut-off date
"˘ Virtual award for winner and runner-up

This is a mere suggestion and an idea; I have no experience with something like this. We need a champion to organize and run it, like one of the more senior members of this forum?

    Hi Andy

I suggest the first step is to "appoint" the competition administrator; should be someone who is good with web page aspects. My suggestion is someone like bbloke, Joe, Monty, Gus, or someone in that kind of league . (who wants to volunteer?)

The administrator then has to finalize the rules of the competition (with inputs of the forum members obviously).

My suggestion in this regard is to keep the restrictions very limited in order to obtain as many entries as possible. One restriction is that it should be a new movie never been released before

Yea i agree that the referee should be one of the "big shows" including who have been making movies more than an month... Like Joe etc.

    <takes one step back>

A competition would be cool though I should warn you, mate, that many have tried to organise one and many have failed.

But you never know, maybe this is a way to encourage the new blood to up their personal bars?

Thats something that has always botherd me. This forums has been effectivly "dead" for a very long time. It never really got off on the right foot, well at least not as well as i had hoped it would. There is little interest in the forum, because there are very few movies coming out. And of course there are very few movies coming out, because the forum never took off(movies make movies). It really is a shame.

I dont know if there would be enough interest to host a movie competition.

The FH&C project was a big talent drain on this community and probably quashed a good five or so films that would otherwise have been made. The flip side, I think, is that every filmmaker who survived the ordeal is now more skilled and has higher expectations for himself than he would otherwise have.

I suspect that a lot of talented people have ideas for very good films they want to create, but they're unwilling to invest the time to make them when BOB is on the horizon. Nobody wants their masterpiece's visuals to become second rate overnight.

There is a fairly steady stream of films being released, but, as has been mentioned in two other recent threads, they haven't raised the bar in any particular way. For that reason, it 'seems' as though there is no activity, but that's really not the case.

The competition idea is a good one if you have enough people to make it a real competition. But I think you're unlikely to get much interest from most of the veteran filmmakers for the reasons I listed above.

    Hi GL2

What you say is true but sad.

Regarding BOB; I get the feeling that the release date is becoming a bit of a pipe dream, no solid news is coming from the Maddox clan, being delayed for over a year now? The credibility of it actually being released is losing ground, we can maybe wait another 2 years!

To attract the old guard one could make it easier by limiting the movie duration to say 4 minutes. That would be less time consuming than a full-on story movie of 10 min and over. We can also make the movie production time 3 months?

    BBloke
BBloke, are you willing to host the competition?, you have a lot of energy as witnessed with the IL2 database site that you created?
