I have noticed one problem since installing patch 1.3. I did not install patch 1.1 or 1.2, i just went from 1.0 (orig version) to the 1.3 patch. My sonar operator no longer informs me of contacts. I dont get the old "Sonar contact, merchant moving slow bearing..." instead he only reports contacts if i click on the "report closest contact" button. I got depth charged and almost dunk by a DD while snorkeling to recharge because he never reported the contact closing to me. I don't know if this has been reported yet or if anyone has any suggestions or maybe even experiencing the same thing. Any help would be appreciated... Thanks!

I think they probably get the picture but let me say it as well: Give us back our sonarman!

With one patrol done on a new campaign (Full Real except Weps Officer assist and Event Cam)I applied the 1.3 patch in port. Added to the crew while in port was a Sr. WO (Sonar rated), a Chief WO (no rate, 200 reknown)and Sr.Lieut (rated Watchman, Torpedoman and Medic, 500 reknown).

Leaving port all seemed well until a slow contact "appeared" on the chart. I plotted a standard intercept and gave the appropriate orders. It being night I posted the above rated people on the bridge and in sonar, kicked up 256 time compression on the chart view and awaited the usual "Ship Spotted".

When nothing was reported when it should have been I went to real-time, dove to 35 meters, ordered "all stop" and waited for my Sonar Rated Sr. Warrant to report. He didn't. I went to the compartment, tapped him on the shoulder and asked about the nearest contact. He said there were none. Amazed I took the sonar position to see for myself. At 020R the engines of the merchant **THUNDERED** in my ear such that Helen Keller would have heard it. I let the Sonar Rated Sr. Warrant have another try but after a five minute wait all he could say was "No Contacts Sir".

I ordered Ahead 1/3 and surfaced. As soon as the conning tower broke the surface I went to the crew management screen and made sure the Sr.Lieut (rated Watchman, Torpedoman and Medic, 500 reknown)was on the bridge and, just to make sure, I stationed a watch rated Warrant with him along with three seamen. That done I spent a minute or so shifting the crew around then went to the bridge. There, about 200 meters off the port bow was the merchant! Fearing worst I asked the Sr.Lieut (rated Watchman, Torpedoman and Medic, 500 reknown)about the nearest contact. He looked me in the eye and said there were no contacts.

Seeing no warning against it I had applied the 1.3 patch over the 1.2. On the chance that 1.3 dosen't like this tomorrow I am going to try an un-reinstall. There is also the possibility that 1.3 dosent like to be patched mid-campaign even though we were told that this was fine as long as you were in port. To cover that base I am going to start a new campaign (with fingers crossed).

So there is still hope but, as of now, 1.3 has rendered my crew literally deaf and blind.

Meh, they're just reading it. No need to actually post something.

Please please PLEASE elaborate. You simply MUST elaborate.

I cannot for the life of me fathom how the problems with the patch are Ubisofts fault. I absolutely MUST know, as it has me extremely perplexed.

Thank you, developers. No, I'm not going to install 1.3 after the feedback it's received. But I'm sure you're doing your best and will continue to do so.

Looking forward to the next patch for this great game. Keep up the good work!

This is my first ever post.

I did a complete reinstall of SH3 and put the 1.3 patch onto it. I have also installed quite a few small mods like hi-res ships, tools for navigation etc onto it as well but not any major ones like RealUBoat etc.

Started a new Campaign (Sept 1939 Kiel) with a VIIB and plotted the exact course as a previous game I did with version 1.2.

I have to say the the Watchmen are now a lot better, when the time slipped to x1 from x1024 and they said they saw a ship it was about 6,000 meters away and all I could see was the smoke plume. I do not recall them doing that with 1.2. I had a hard time seeing it myself until I used the binoculars and sure enough it was there.

I think the co-ordination of aircraft and DDs is better as well. During fairly bad weather NW of Scotland the watchmen saw aircraft approaching and I did a crash dive. I actually saw the bomb being dropped from the aircaft but it missed. I stayed under for a while and came to periscope depth and did a quick look through the observation periscope and saw nothing apart from rather large waves. I went to the hydrophone section and heard something. I used the oberservation periscope again and a DD was coming in my general direction about 2500 meters away so I stayed under and used my stern tube at 900 meters. I do not believe he heard me or saw me as he was not doing any zigzagging and was doing a steady 13knots. The DD saw the torp at the last moment and tried to avoid it but it got hit on the stern. The watch officer said the torp had missed but two seconds past the "red line" on the stopwatch it hit and I heard a "Yeah". I think he should wait 5 or 10 seconds after the "red line" before declaring a miss.

After almost 10 days at sea I have sunk one small freighter and two DDs using only three torps. I will soon be at patrol area SW of Ireland. I have set it to 85% realism. The only thing I am not doing is the manual TDC.

The sonar man has told me of contacts he can hear after I ask him but he has not warned me of anything in advance. Will try some experiments on this one and get back to you.

So far it has been rather entertaining - three crash dives from aircraft and avoiding some DDs but it appears to be better. My previous game under 1.2 I had two patrols under me with 250,000 tons of shipping sunk (about 31 ships in all).

I have an AMD3000 62bit PC with 1.25Gb of RAM, ATI 9600XT card, 2 x 120Gb SATA hdds and an Audigy 2 sound card.

Hope this is of some help.

Only a handful of the team being allowed to continue working on SH3, under enourmous pressure, whilst the rest are put onto something new (SH4? Ka-ching!).
