Hey just dropping my two cents in hopes that Ubi will get the hint. Please fix the sonar man! Everything else I can live with but a mute deaf sonarman on a blind boat underwater is just terrible, I envy you guys out there who didn't bother with 1.3 at least you still have ears. By the way where can I find 1.2? I want to do a clean install and play with 1.2 until Ubi fixes this major problem.Maybe we should just open a thread that just screams Sonarman Sonarman over and over until problem is solved. Whats it gonna take people. Honestly there acting true to the game by playing the ignorant HQ oblivious to the Captians complaints. GIVE ME BACK MY SONAR GUY NOW!!!!
thats all for now
Hello DiveDevil,
Well, first I will assert my opinion. I think there should have been official word that the Sonar Man is a known issue with v1.3 and the Patch v1.4 is being worked on to address the problem. Really, I think they should have made a 'hotfix' for this issue for Patch v1.3.
With that said, v1.3 hasn't been out terribly long, and there has been some unofficial statements that v1.4 is in the works. I have seen some people say that it's in beta testing. Although I am not using Patch v1.3 I have heard that, other then the Sonar Man problem, and possibly making DD's a little too uber, Patch v1.3 was a step in the right direction for SHIII.
Now, with the Sonar Man problem in v1.3 let's hope they take their time making and testing v1.4!(how could that problem been missed in testing?) Again, it hasn't been terribly long since Patch v1.3 was released. They just should have made a hotfix is all... just my opinion.
Now that I got that out of the way...
You can go here to get Patch v1.2...

Wow OTS77 your right 1.3 isn't all that old I just checked the directory you linked and saw the dat (May 10th) so that I kind of understand. However like you said how on this Gods green Earth could they have let a frig up like a deaf/mute sonarman slip past testing? I gotta admit I didn't catch on at first but then again I started playing with the patch a mear days after getting ahold of the game; I first thought I had an seriously stupid sonarman and dismissed something like four of them until it hit me; ohh and this forum helped too. lol. I mean there I was cursing at my monitor "Come on you silly twit the **** DD is right on top of us!!!!! *&%$'in A!!!!" Funny I can live with all the other quircks, I'm not that [articular about the realism-thus far- but not being able to keep contact underwater, unless I want to man the hydrophone myself and lose my consentration is unacceptable. I find myself useing the free cam more than I want just to see what the silly ponce is doing above me and that take away from what realism I enjoy. So I guess I just regress to 1.2 for now if thats what it takes to have an alert and vocal officer at the hydrophone. Thanks for the link stay dry and don't eat the seaweed.
Later Herr Kaleun and happy hunting
P.S Read Das Boot don't just watch it trust me.

I agree. It is macabre having the full watch with tops of their heads bobbing at water-level. It also gives away the location to pursuing Destroyers. Is there any way a saved-game can hold all its settings? When reloaded, it makes life awkward when everything is zeroed, especially when the action was from the stern tubes: periscope is at dead-ahead instead of (say) 180, selected tube becomes #1, etc.
I wish they would fix the **** weather. It seems that the weather is decided when you leave port and stays the same the entire patrol. I am tired of following a target for days on patrol and having the same rain storm following me. I feel like I am in the Truman show. And the navigators weather report does not match the weather. He often tells me it is foggy but no precipation, then I go on deck and it's pouring buckets!.
I downloaded the 1.3 patch, but always i got this message:
C:\Arquivos de programas\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\Data\Menu\de_men u.txt: unknown version
I never updated the game before, and never installed any mod. I Already had a problem a long time ago, updating a game from Ubisoft (Battle Realms) wich showed unknown version too. I really dont know why this happen, and to update BR i had to get a file with the games distribuitor in my country. Does it have any country requieremnt to update ubisoft? because it looks so.
So, if somecone can help me update mey Silent Hunter III, iâ´ll be most glad.
Hey whats up with the unknown version thing anyway? I had the same problem when I tried to regress from 1.3 to 1.2. First I tried to install it over 1.3 and I got that message so then I uninstalled the sim except for my saved data, loaded it back up (check to see if any of the oblious fixes from 1.3 were there first) and tried it again;same results. Well maybe I had a corrupt version so I downloaded another copy;same results. I don't understand what unknown version could mean, my copy loads 1.3 no problem but I want my somar man back plus I'd like some of the add-ons and fixes from 1.2- the bare version just seems kinda so so or it my just be my imagination-. Any no much to contribute just sharing your frustration , if anyone knoes what this is cause by some input would be appreciated.
Hi,
First, make sure you have downloaded the proper patch. If you have the US DVD version of the game make sure the patch is for that version, such as dvd_1.x_us.exe. Fairly obvious I would think but just making sure.
Second, when uninstalling SilentHunterHIII the uninstaller does not ask if you want to delete the folder and all it's contents. Because of this I think a number of people have had problems when they try to reinstall. So, after the uninstall is done go to your SilentHunterIII folder and delete everything that's leftover inside it before you try and reinstall. Or you can delete the SilentHunterIII folder itself, which does the same thing.
Third, if you are regressing from 1.3 to 1.2 you might find that your saved 1.3 data/career works in 1.2, maybe. Or you might find that your 1.3 works for a few patrols, and then suddenly all your saves just vanish. To avoid any trouble it's really best if you just start a new career. It's up to you but I just thought I'd let you know that it's really best if you just have the uninstaller delete your 1.3 saved data/career before installing 1.2. Or just delete it yourself from the 'My Documents' folder.
The patches for SHIII will not work if your game has been modded in any way, shape or form. If you have modded you main.cfg(or whatever other .cfg file) file or something else has modded it, or you are trying to use the wrong patch(EMEA patch instead of the US version, for example), then this would be the reason for the error message you received.
Hope that helps,
One Tin Soldier
