Great stuff, thanks man. Such maps really are very useful when reading about the strategies and battles.

    Cheers,

    Yes. Thanks for the link!

It would be great if the islands in PF would actually look like they do on real maps and be in the right location.

It would be great if the maps were actually big enough to fly from one island to the next. This is probably begging for fps-breaking maps though.

I understand that the level of detail makes it tough to do with the great maps we have but i always thought that the one and only thing CFS had over the entire IL2 series was the size of its maps. It would be great to be able to incorporate the entire theatre.. or to be able to connect maps... like say start a mission on one map and continue it on another.

Actually I was only pondering that yesterday. The great thing about any of the MS sims is that the architecture doesn't use limited maps as such. You could literally circumnavigate the world (poles excluded) and not have to worry about going from one map to the other. Of course terrain detail (objects, mesh, landclass) is depended on the files you have installed, but the basic "world" is always there.

For combat sims, I don't mind too much about the map principal, but it will be interesting to see how this is managed in PF, the distances being so vast.

Come to think of it, I haven't yet tried flying right to the edge of a map in FB.

There was a post by Luthier here some while back pointing out map performance was dependant on the number of objects, not the size of the map. That being correct, it seems the performance achievable in PF would more depend on the detail of the objects (inclduing aircraft, ships and vehicles) as well as the density of objects rather than the size of maps.
