Apparently AAA had run up a large bill with their host and the person responsible for the site could not be found in time to organise payment. It has now been removed permanently.

It's demise seems to have gone unmentioned on other IL-2 websites. True, it had pretty much become a clown factory for the under 16, hooray-for-everything crowd. But it was once the centre of the Il-2 modding community. I especially remember the earliest days in the map making area. When every discovery and advancement was shared and discussed. It was a good time that. And one worth remembering.

I wasn't around for its conception so I don't feel the death as much as some will, but I do understand the significance of this loss.

Eh? Other than the 'banana forum', which doesn't allow mention of mod sites at all, every Il-2 site I've looked at has commented on it.

In any case, it looks likely that it, or something like it, will start up again at another location. I'd like to think that this incident would reduce some of the inter-modder-site bickering, but it seems not to...

That's too bad, though I'm not all that surprised to hear about it. I recently tried to register to the site so I could sample some cockpit and sound mods, but I never got confirmation for my registration. I tried to contact their "admin" on numerous attempts but I never got a reply. I just said to hell with it...

Just looking at the site as of late and one gets the impression that maintenance has waned. With a few excellent exceptions, it's become a bit of a hodge-podge soup of amateurish, half-baked mods, with wildly varying degrees of quality. And there were a lot of mods. A whole lot...

As generally a vanilla player I am really not that sad to see it go. I don't mind mods that change sounds and textures. I might use them myself. But when I need a lease 1 mod if not 2 hardcore mods to play on a server it is getting ridiculous.

I like stock IL-2 and have never really wanted for anything else besides perhaps the DCG which I have to admit I got from AAA so go figure but that is besides the point. And some new maps but besides that 4.10 will be out soon so hey what more could a flyboy want?

If you mean Lowengrins DCG its nothing to do with AAA or mods.

I am a little upset about that.
I gave them a great deal of money to keep it going, back when they were THE site to go to.

I would have to say, with regret, that "hooray for everything" is a fairly accurate description towards the end.
Amongst the refuse, there were some really good mods there.

Pretty sad. A lot of good people devoted a awful lot of time doing some great work over there.

it used to be a really great site, but i found myself going there less and less, and found it to be less and less mature...
