    The game has been out since 2005 right? Has nobody made a mod that includes the Kiel Canal? I hear there is one for GWX (or something) but is there no stand-alone version?

    If anyone has answers please post!

    No, ....There is no Kiel Canal in the stock game. (...And no "stand-alone" mod that I am aware of.)

    Please be aware that the final "UBI created" patch to SH3 was V1.4B: .....And that was produced in 2005!! Since then, UBI has considered SH3 to be finished, and moved on to other things. (SH4, and maybe SH5)

    Having said that, ....I really have to ask: "Do you mean to say that you haven't checked out GWX?????!!!!????"

    If you're not running GWX, you are missing out on 90% of the experience!!!! The list of improvements is too long to list here, and the enhancements to the visual experience will blow your mind!! (...AND you get the Kiel Canal! )

    Like my Italian mother-in-law always said: "Try it! ....You'll like it!!!"

    This might really peeve a lot of people but: I don't like a lot of user-made mods. I often find that what they think is "realistic" is actually not. I don't know where they get their info from.

    Stating that, I haven't tried GWX: haven't even looked at it. Maybe if there was a list of changes/updates. Also, I was going to d/l it but they want money, and I'm not willing to pay for something that I might not even like.

    Some mods are great and others are just well... too personal(?)

    I wish I could get a huge mod like GWX and pick and choose which parts of it I want to use and not have to use the whole package.

    I realize Ubisoft is done with SH3: I'm just surprised no one has made a stand-alone kiel canal.

    IIRC it once was available as standalone mod, but it was integated into the major mods. There may be a thread here (search function), at the German Ubi board or over at Subsim.com - they have a search function too - after registration.

    You may want to search for GWX to find a list of modifications, or you may check the GWX manual to get the information.

    @Gamer;

    The important thing to realize here is that you can tailor SH3 (….even with a “Super-Mod”) to be pretty much what you want it to be!

    Between the changes you can make to the .CFG files with Windows Notepad, and the changes you can inflict on the .SIM and .ZON files with some of the hex editing tools that are available, you can go from very minor adjustments to the utterly fantastic!

    Consider “The Ruptured Duck”: …..The TypeIID featured in the “Socko” short stories!! It’s a 25 knot TypeII with a twelve torpedo load-out and a 37mm deck gun! It is, of course, utter fantasy: …..But it is fun!!

    …..And NO!!, ……You don’t have to “breath digitally” to learn to do these things! ……If someone like me, ….who is essentially “Hex-dyslexic” can manage this stuff; ….Then you certainly can!

    …..And if your perception of “actual accuracy” is the goal, ….the same tools will serve you well!

    I tried that tweaker and destroyed my game. i had to reinstall and everything. i'm not sure how i fixed it actually.

    i've made a few modifications myself: such as increasing the power of batteries, not just the recharge rates.

    i don't really need the kiel canal anyway since after june 1940 you don't really operate out of kiel.

    i'd like to make it so i can put a lot of holes in an unarmoured ship's hull with flak guns though.

    I'd really like the crush depth changer tool if anyone has it.

    I dunno how you managed to break the game with Mini Tweaker... If I understood you correctly.

    I made it so that I can indeed make holes in ships with 20mm. Doesn't work too well on full-health ships, but works wonders on unarmed cripples. Just gotta remember to increase aircraft hit points a LOT, so you don't kill them with 1 bullet.

    That mini-tweaker is an amazing thing... Also made a simulation of an air-dropped torpedo with it. Not real, but looks good enough for me.

    GWX 3.0 is free, no money required. SubSim had it available for one week when it first came out for a donation to SubSim to help pay the costs of the SubSim server but, it is now free to download. Here is the stand-alone version of the mod

    Finally someone comes through! Many thanks HW3. I'll have to check out GWX 3.0 some time. Last time I was on SubSim (yesterday)

    They wanted a paypal donation to d/l GWX 3.0.
