WHOA!! This thread has been up here for over 2.5 hours and Brain32 hasn't typed, "Spitfire +25lb" yet?!?!

What are these forums coming to, if we can't even count on the usual unrelenting biases that we have come to know and expect?!?

My favorite planes to watch slamming into the earth at mach speeds are:

    Bf-109-G2

Any FW (Doras are a special bonus because they usually have a very long way to fall )

I'd have to say, without a doubt, the B-29.

There are a lot of reasons. First off, I'm an emotional sap, and I've seen 'Grave of the Fireflies', so everytime I down a B-29, I can be extremely wishy-washy and tell myself, "Well, perhaps I sent about a dozen American pilots to their deaths, but on the positive side, I saved a lot of poor orphans from starvation or fiery death....right?"

(Note: I realize that this line of thought doesn't do anything to address the Japanese militarism that would bring the nation into war and ruin. I never said it was a good reason...)

Second, and a bit more pragmatic, the sheer difficulty in bringing down a B-29 makes it a victory to savor. Seriously, even in a Ki-100 or a Ki-84 (of any variant), it's a chore reaching that altitude and maintaining it...the thing is bristling with so many gun emplacements, even if all the gunners are horrible shots, one of them is bound to hit, thanks to simple mathematics.

On an earlier plane, it's damn well impossible, unless the thing is at a lower altitude. In any case, bringing down such a monster really does feel like a victory, even if you only take down one or two in a mission.

Of course, thanks to the altitude, you'll have to wait some time for it to go plummeting to the ground...

Yeah, I'd go with the B-29 too. It's something about that metallic phallus that really makes me enjoy seeing it go down. The He 111 Zwilling is sort of fun to shoot down too.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Well, the He-111 isn't the same challenge....it's a small, low-altitude bomber by comparison, right? On the other hand, when I'm hunting He-111s, they don't piss me off nearly the same way B-29s do.

For an He-111, I imagine that the pilot is just struggling to dodge fighters at his altitudes, with his 2 side and tailgunners frantically trying to save their skins just in time to return to base, only to have to do it again.

But for the B-29, it's like "HA HA JAP! WE'RE WAY THE HELL UP HERE, AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT! HAR HAR! WHAT ARE YOU AND YOUR LITTLE PLANE WITH ONE 1500 HP ENGINE GONNA DO ABOUT IT?" I mean, it's impossible to fight one of those things without thinking that it's gloating at you.

Well here it goes: Any Spitfire, especially the 25lBS

Phew, I feel much more complete now. Thanks, Brain32.

Monty, although I admire your fervor, I am the President of the Mk. VIII Club these days. +25lbs may climb a bit better, but in my experience the Mk. VIII still takes it in the dogfight. Mk. VIII is "King of the Spitfires", especially the CW...which is the best all-around plane in this game, IMNSHO. <div class="ev_tpc_signature">
