What i find most fascinating is the fact that the deeper we look out into the universe the more we look into the past.

The Nebula NGC 6302 shown on the photo above is 4000 light years away which means that the light which fell into hubbles lenses when it photographed it has left NGC 6302 4000 years ago and it took it this time to travel the distance to arrive here on earth.

This means we do not see the Nebula as it is right now but what it looked like 4000 years ago.

Many of the stars we can see at night propably dont exist anymore since hundred thousands of years.

If a star which is 15000 light years away from us would explode right now we could still see it in our night sky for the next 15000 years until it would disappear.

Its the same with our sun. Its 8 light minutes away from us so if you look up at the sun , you look 8 minutes into the past. Would it stop burning we would first realize it 8 minutes after it happened.

Probably just as well: .....Now, it's certainly all cluttered up with "Taco Bells" and billboards! .....You know how it is once the Tourists find a good place!

Hmmmm.... Protecting a whole Nebula that stretches over light years...

This would be a monumental task for Greenpeace

Hey PB, don't forget you can watch events like this live from NASA TV . They are still showing reruns of the event.

In other news, here is the latest look deep into the Milky Way of new stars forming.
