Require (frequent) trim dives, and the lack of such would leave the boat unbalanced.

The patrol grid is OK to start your patrol but this should be countermanded or modified to suit the situation. You are 20 hours into finishing this and a convoy is reported, In real life, those orders would be rescinded and you would be ordered by BDU to go after the convoy, You should be rewarded for leaving the assigned area and attacking the convoy. After your assignment is done, you would be directed to other areas. U-boats had room to decide but also had many direct orders sent many times after leaving ports.

I believe organized wolf packs are more that can be done at this point but a high priority should be other U-boats operating.
Realistic duplication of major events within the limits of sanity like the invasion of Norway, the actions in the Med would be interesting and add to the immersion of being in WWII.

I would like a major change where you can not click from one place to another. But, you must come down from the bridge, move through the boat etc to take direct command leaving the designation of work as it now is. Yeh, SH4 or an expansion should move to a higher level, right??

Supply ships (through mid 1941) and then Milche Cows afterwards is a big thing to make this more a sim.

They could spend a few bucks on someone that knows how to make good effects without FPS drain. I know for a fact this is possible as we have such a man in the Desert Rats for the MAW project. He finds ways to make great pyrotechnics without killing the frame rates. We won’t have anything that causes stutter and we are freeware.
Payware should expect no less, IMO.

Some traffic around ports would be nice. Is there anyone here that would tire of seeing the Admiral Hipper anchored nearby on the way out?

A few more merchant models would be nice. It does not take much more time to build a bigger model than a small one. I would rather never have the useless tugs, fishing boats and unarmed trawlers and a few more merchant ships. One in the 600-900 ton range another in the 3,000 ton range etc. There were hundreds of different looking merchant men we could do with more than 4.

An occasional air raid in port with local AA in combat.
The U-Boat AA should be able to manned as long as the bridge can be. Manning the deck gun should be stepped up one notch. I have seen pictures of U-boats shelling ships in much rougher seas than we can.

A bigger time transition in being sunk, more latitude to survive with this variation would be possible and a slower death while you fight to save the boat. Now it all happens so fast you sometimes are fine then ka-boom, black screen.
That also could be more interesting if you have a destroyed U-boat with bubbles and debris and cheering Englishmen celebrating your demise.

More variation in convoy behavior. Now, while under attack, they act like you are not there or any action is occurring.

More sailors on the ships, at the bridge and other obvious positions.

A couple more gun models for the standard 4.7 inch would be nice. An unshielded 3 inch similar to the 88MM on the allied merchant ships would be more real that the housed 4.7 in most cases.

If only one warship is too be added; a County class cruiser would be a more typical early year patrol ship. While I admit there is no end to my wish list for more ships, I understand the need to be reasonable

A redo of the Roster to accurately reflect the real navies involved. Right now it is very inaccurate and this is all easily found historical data. Just as easy to make it right as wrong.

Give the aircraft their real ordnance. The Stuka carries 0ne 500KG bomb, not three. The Hurricane never carried bombs except later as a ground support plane in Africa and Burma and that was much later. The Hurri II was not in service early. This list is long for easy correction.
A way for modders to add scenery to areas now blank, buildings, streets, people, whatever. Maybe someone wants to place the temple to Poseidon at Cape Sounion? I would not want to stop him!!!

I will list more when I have thought about it as this is just off the top of my head. LOL

1- Ability to switch the lights we want (blue, red, white).
2- The speed telegraph lever should work, each telegraph should have a light flashing until the order is confirmed (red for portside, green for starboard), and individual engine management.
3- Fully 3D modeled, animated, functional, and tripulated sub interior.
4- Milk cows and ports used for resupply (Vigo, etc.).
5- If a threat is spotted (plane, warship), the watch officer should shout the alarm.
6- We should be able to choose which guys will be assigned to any of the 3 watches, and then we should be able to order the first, second or third watch to go on duty.
7- When on surface, the planesmen and helmsman should be watchmen, but when a inmersion is ordered, these 3 guys must come down to their stations. The helmsman is not that officer currently marked as such. The helmsman is a sailor, and that officer is the Chief Engineer.
    8- No Starforce.

Pretty much everything that's been said in the above posts.

But, at the end of a campaign (or when your sub dies), it'd be nice if there was more to do. Such as perhaps a 'Wreck View', to see your 'greatest hits' as would have been viewed on the ship. Maybe even a way to see your dead U-Boat in present day, under the sea.

You can choose this already with your EXO. When been submerged and surfacing, batteries are automatically recharged, but if you select "normal propulsion", the speed increases, and I presume batteries are not recharging anymore.

Check the lights on the engine telegraphs.
They change colour to red (otherwise green) when the engine is used for recharging.

Fully 3d sub interior that I can walk around in. (like a FPS). To have a purpose to it, any crewmen who are in the same "room" as the cpt get a "morale / fatigue" bonus of some sort, perhaps performing their jobs just a little better or something. Along with this feature, more intuitive control such as mouse wheel forward = zoom into 2d screen (maps, periscope, hydrophone, etc) mouse wheel back = zoom out of 2d back into 3d enviroment. Have crewmen interact a little more, maybe speak a little to each other. Crew animations when going to or leaving a station. (I would like to see the watch crew climb the ladder up the tower). Basically, make my sub even more "alive". Emmersiveness is king.

Better AI pathfinding on enemy destroyers

I went into Scapa Flow during my patrol last night

Crept past one destroyer (torpedo dud)
Found a second one, stationary right on the shores of an island.

Crept around, and sunk her easily

Then i surface, the destroyer out to sea, spots me, and charges towards me, i go back down to periscope depth, and manouver around the other side of the island.

Destroyer gets stuck on other side of island whilst trying to come straight for me (not intelligent enough to go around the island)

So i then creep around to other side of island, and slam a couple fishes into her, and she goes down too.

As i make my escape with planes dropping depth charges, a third destroyer slams into the same island and sinks herself (i saw the third shipwrecked icon, on my map screen, but i didn't attack that ship)

also, it would be nice if we could give orders to the men in the hidden instruments view the "." view.. when i click on them they look my way, but i have no buttons appearing. u will know what i mean, once u try it, simply turn off the interface view with the numpad "." key, then click on any officer. If the devs implement this into the game, then we could run the game without that interface on your screen, making it more.. realistic.
also, i'd like to see the black sea operations implemented as well
