totally agree, point is proven by the severe lack of owners complaining, and almost every complaint coming from those who confess "i didnt and wont buy this game with this drm"

if the problems were as huge as the pirates are screaming about, then there would be over 1 million members here who bought the game complaining just as loud.

as it is theres just a minority of first time loggers with single figure post counts whining because the drm is so successful its lasted weeks against the usual ripping that happens to most games in the first few days.

whoever invented/created this drm method is right now sitting there with a grin like a cheshire cat,as every game dev house out there is knocking his door.

Oh well, let's not hope too much. We were denied the game till Mars 2010, and they didn't even bother to fix the aspect ratio (Really, I would've been satisfied with the option to simply stretch the image )

But who are we to complain? It's not like we bought the thing.
    Oh wait...
I know I was the one who suggested a replay missions patch, but I'm less convinced that's what the compensation will be (although I would love a replay patch to be the compensation). I figure ms-k's announcement saying that email addresses need to be registered in order to receive emails about the compensation shows some degree of exclusivity (only those PC players who actually suffered the problems get the benefit of the compensation, not later PC gamers or console gamers). If that's the case, later PC gamers and console gamers would blow their tops if only a few of us got to replay missions.

So what other options are there? I figure picking apart the email might shed a little light. First the email:

We will be offering you additional game rewards to show our thanks for your patience and understanding. We will contact you soon with full details. In the meantime, please be assured that our teams are working around the clock to ensure that you continue to enjoy your game experience with Assassin's Creed 2.
Additional game rewards seems to suggest that it won't be a discount on another game or something similar. The term sounds a lot like a Uplay reward, in fact. I figure that suggests it will take the form of a reward similar to those available through Uplay: a wallpaper, some throwing knives, the Altair costume and a new map. It certainly reads to me like someone has put considerable effort into the wording of the statement (as is appropriate given the legal consequences of Ubisoft's server being down).

Conclusions from this? My guess is something like the Uplay rewards that are already available. If Ubi are going to be stingy, then I guess it will be a wallpaper or a Uplay theme. But (and my fingers are crossed for this) if this is a serious public relations effort to try to retain some customer goodwill, and to get people who have issues with the DRM to wait for the server problems to be fixed instead of returning their copy (as they would be contractually entitled to do, in addition to any rights conferred by consumer protection legislation), then you need a significant incentive.

I figure a new map fits the bill nicely. Given how much many AC2 gamers wanted the additional Templar lairs that were packaged with the Black edition, I think it would be a point of significant prestige for an exclusive group of PC gamers to get their own exclusive map (by one off code redemption I guess). It would make other PC and console gamers angry, but that is the attraction of exclusivity. And I don't think it would arouse the sort of anger that would emerge if only a few people got a replay patch. So I think an exclusive map walks a nice line between providing an incentive for current PC gamers and not arousing too much anger in future PC gamers and console gamers.

Of course, a new map would mean time and money spent coding, as well as testing (I'm really not an expert on the processes going into a game). But I can't see a single map being a huge task for an entire studio compared to a full game (or more likely, a small team working on a map).
