As tyuey sozdovalis' Heroes of Might and Magic V

after the small time we obtained materials from Ubisoft with their vision of that, such as must be the fifth part. In them were contained many ideas, which it would be possible without the exaggeration to name revolutionary. In particular, the discussion did deal with the change of genre - from TBS to RTS. certainly, jpurnalists would be happy - of similar to sensation in the industry is infrequent, but that would say usual players?

To surmise not too is complicated... During the negotiations and the considerations we succeeded herself in convincing publisher of the inexpediency of similar changes...

As a result we decided to leave revolutionary ideas to someone other, after preferring evolutionary approach...

But how much men did make the fifth part of the series? Naverneka this question interests many. On the peak of works were begun to operate 80 office colleagues and the order of 30 autsorserov (strange developers). As a result we obtain prismerno of 110 people...

The most exponential example is connected with the open beta testing. Despite the fact that we reached our purpose and it is satisfactory tested the server of multi-user game, appeared petition known to all, and we unexpectedly obtained additional time for more thorough testing. But completely not in order to remove bugs, which... were corrected even prior to the beginning of beta test. The dimensions of battlefield, however, it was necessary to increase...

Version was accepted, and we are already were ready ready to continue work in the assigned direction, when from Ubisoft arrived the answer, which distressed us all us without izklyucheniya. Us they requested to change the graphic style Heroes of Might and Magic V. "you can more", said the managers of publisher. Basic argument became the fact that the game appears too cartoony, from us they wanted epic realism with the retention of the traditional "heroic" atmosphere. Task this is nontrivial. It was necessary soglasitsa to a similar alteration... By itself the process of changing the drawing engaged not more than two months. For the comparison - the work on the first FPP - by version engaged about 7 months.

In short, at start Nival actualy convinced Ubisoft, that Heroes must stay turn based!!! And Ubisoft in developement proces ordered Nival to change cartoony graphic stile to more epic realistic stile.

Indeed. This game is made for TBS like chess. Also glad they formulated the game mechanics after a winner called Heroes III.

I think Nival chose well and listen to the gamers. I like H3 over H4.

I only wish for more SP maps, but as was said, there is going to be a map editor and later, a Random Map Generator -in the next expansion.

UBI wanted to make an RTS out of one of the true TBS classic game series?!? And we actually thanked UBI for continuing the series for us?!? I'm sure glad it didn't go their way...

Although on the other hand kinda cool that they actually listened to the developers when they when they said keep it turnbased, rather than just saying, ya know, "do it".

    Interesting article.

Bugs corrected before the open beta?. After this pure nonsense I warn you to not believe a single word of that whole thing.

So it looks like Nival are the good guys and Ubi the bad guys now right? yeah, sure.

Making HV a RTS game would have been a bad idea. Making another RTS game based on the HoMM games is a great idea. IMHO of course...

Yeah, I was enjoying the read until that sentence, which is a complete lie. I can't believe someone can say that with a straight face.
