Well I've just upgraded from a dual core computer to a six core, mainly for RoF and FSX more than this game it has to be said.

Ran CoD out of interest with everything set on High except trees on medium and god was it a stutter fest. Tried my usual testing mission which is the Blenheim takeoff mission but using a Hurricane instead of the Blenheim - it took at least 1 minute for all the textures etc to load smoothly enough to look around the cockpit. Once everything settled down I took off and regular slight stuttering remained until I was a medium height.

I don't know what they have done to the panning either but the cockpit fixed views are right rubbish - the smooth panning they had before this patch was far better.

I then tried the London sightseeing tour for a laugh - game wouldn't load properly for ages, plane nearly crashed whilst all the textures etc were loading (probably took a good minute again to load), extremely long stutters all the time until it sort of settled down after about a minute when I could actually fly around a bit but stutters still remained.

I can fly RoF very smoothly on High settings and FSX over Seattle with everything set very high perfectly smoothly. When I look at how much FSX has to model in the Seattle area and then I look at CoD theres really no comparison. CoD is a good dogfighting game when it is smooth but the developers must get rid of all these slow loading textures etc - its just killing the gameplay.

Oh yes and the reason I am posting here is because I have been banned from the 1C developer's forum like everyone else who expressed any discontent at this game.

Fate brought you here, this forum is for the original IL2, Not Clifs Of Dover, Which should play like a dream on your new PC. You can purchase IL2 1946 for less than $10 now. And it will provide HOURS, DAYS, MONTHS of enjoyment. I suggest you try it until COD is fixed by patching.

This sim is fantastic and I promise you'll enjoy it.

As for COD, what is your video card? The game itself is problematic, but it may help you for the future. How much RAM are you running on the new system?

EDIT: Post got moved to correct forum, but I still say try 1946. JETS BABY JETS!!!

Lol! I played Falcon 4 to death and have Flaming Cliffs 2 still waiting to be looked at on my computer - but so far ROF and FSX have taken up all my time lately since I only got back into flight sims recently. RoF got me back into flight sims actually - such a superb game.

I had the original IL2 Forgotten Battles and wasnt impressed in fact I sold it. But I was hoping CoD would be better. So far though it doesn't even work well so I cant even tell if there's a good game there.

    Let me see ....

Your whole point in posting on the IL2/Cod forums was to announce that you dislike BOTH IL2_1946 and also CoD and do not play either of them and you much prefer the Microsoft flight simulator ?

To be honest your graphics card is letting you down there(a little more ram wouldn't hurt either) I went from an overclocked 5870 (which is a bit of a step up from yours) to an overclocked GTX 580 as just wasn't handling it to well at all.

Make no mistake it's a very hardware intensive sim,but as the developers designed it to last and be upgradable for the next 10 years there's really no way to do that while catering to todays hardware.

The last 3 months of patch's have improved this quiet a bit I'd say it'll still need quiet good hardware for some time to come.

edit: try IL-2 1946 with any of the current mod packs (i.e. ultrapack 3 or HSFX 5 are the best)
it really is still an amazing experience and your computer will run em at full settings no worries.
    Good luck

Hmm, no comparison to the Seattle area in FSX. Gee, you're right, I don't see any cities in CloD with streets mis-aligned in a completely different direction to the terrain underneath. Let me guess, you spent 100's of $$ on 3rd party scenery for FSX, so now you have none left to upgrade your outdated 3-yr-old grafix card?

Yes, I too am having trouble with why you would drop in to make proclamations as to your standings with this line of sims?

It is certainly your video card that is your biggest problem. And if you have room for more RAM, might as well order some of that too.

If you have any interest at all in flight sims, IL2 1946 is king and will not let you down. I have a 4870 and runs it maxed out with tons of planes in the air.

It sounds like your just into eye candy though. Do you fly full real? or more arcadey? Cockpit or open pit?

You will have to use a bit of imagination to over come the graphics of 1946. But when you are engaged in a dogfight, none of the pretty sights matter much anyway.

Just gibe it a try. $10 is nothing compared to the amount of amazing sim you get for it. Just think, if CSF was anywhere near IL2, wouldnt it still be around too?

Quite wrong I play FSX with Acceleration and that's all. Yes mny graphics card is outdated but it still sells for £150 so its not a bad card. And my graphics are only one point behind my processor in the Windows Experience Rating (with 73 out of 78) so its not that unless its the lack of graphics ram (512MB). Either way CloD seems to be extremely demanding on even my modern computer and in my view there is nothing in the game that needs it that I have seen yet. Its just sloppyu programming. Game needs loads and loads of optimisation.

4850's do not sell for £150, they are 2 generations behind now the 6000 series is out. A better video card will make it run smoother but I have 2 x Geforce 570's and still get stuttering.

    Similar CPU to you, nstutt.

My 1.2 gig GPU lets me run COD all maxed out with very few stutters

GPU is certainly your weak point.
