After having this game since the month it came out, I finally decided to go try out the multiplayer, and I got the "Unknown Network Error" problem. So after a quick search around, I came across this forum page.. I must say, that my hope in Ubisoft dropped considerably from the post's I have read.

First, people have gotten this for month's, and Ubisoft still has not sorted it fully out?

Secondly, If there is a problem with your game, or online section of the game. You [Ubisoft] should be investigating it immediatly. Not just wait until it becomes a big problem for everyone.

In all honesty, if this cannot be fixed soon I will lose all hope in Ubisoft. [Which I know mean's nothing to you interweb's people.]

-Edit- Probably not the right spot, but since an ubisoft person seem's to at least be here. [Or that is the impression I have of ms-kleaneasy.. If you dont work for Ubi, my mistake]. Anyways, does anyone else have an issue with the support site? It ask's me to log in, take's me to the support page, then ask's me to log in again, and repeat's.

Ok so i have seem to fallen victim of the "unkown network error" I have the steam versions for both vanilla sh4 and u-boat missions. What i did try doing is revalidating the files. upon relaunchign the game it reverted to 1.3. but in 1.3 i could logon and get to the lobby. but as v1.5 i did not work. I dont know if this makes any sense to the tech savy people here. but maybe a config from 1.3 to 1.5 got a messed up line for the MP network. So what im doing now is redownloading just the uboat missions from steam and will that a go here in bout 10 mins.

So on the 5th January 2010 I did as Ms-kleaneasy suggested and sent another support ticket to Ubi Technical support. So over 1 week later these are the responses I have had....

    None
    nil
    zilch
    nothing
    zero
    nada
    not one thing
    none at all
    not a one
    not any
    not anything

    To sum up....NOTHING.

This is not the fault of Ms-kleaneasy, no as I said in a previous post they are having her over as well. This problem has been going on for months and should have been well fixed by now, but that department that calls themselves Technical Support are not, you will get more support for anything connected to this and other games from the people who visit the forums here. If we had access to their servers someone here would have probably fixed it by now. Ring Technical support and the people there will read from a text and charge YOU the customer for the priviledge. You submit a ticket to technical support and despite the promise of a reply within 24 hours you get absolutely nothing after 8 days.

No, Technical support do not intend to fix this issue they are purely waiting for SH5 to come out and are probably praying that all the SH4 players will just go away.

Ubisoft you are yet again showing yourselves to be uninterested in people who are in fact the people you actually need...your customers!!!!

If you ever want a definative reason as to why you as a customer should steer clear of Ubisofts products...then this will be it.

If you remember Ms-Kleaneasy tried to get an answer to the online error problem and after trying twice, to her credit, she suggested on this thread that those affected should once again send another report of the problem to the technical support department so they could again look at the problem.

My post above shows that they have taken 8 days to look at this 'issue' and after those 8 days have managed to come up with something to hopefully resolve the issue.

Here is what ubisofts technical department have managed to come up with after 8 days at looking at the problem....

    Hello Maverick,

Please fully disable your background software by using msconfig

    - This will bring up the Run box.
    - Type MSCONFIG and click OK

    Ubisoft Technical Support.

As you can well imagine my response was never going to be one for the feint hearted....

At what stage did you decide to treat me as a 'blithering idiot' . Why are you now throwing the problem back at me and asking ME to fix something that is so OBVIOUSLY YOUR error. I find your reply nothing short of an insult!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This has got absolutely NOTHING to do with ANY background programmes on my computer but more to your inability as a software company to offer any sort of after care service to your customers. YOU have accepted in the not tooooooooo distant past that the problem was with YOUR servers. So don't you dare insult my intelligence and suggest that it is something to do with my system!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

YOU have an issue with YOUR servers and this has been going on for months and others have reported the same errors...Have all our computers suddenly decided to have the same problems at exactly the same time???. I think not.!!!!!

So instead of treating us like lemmings get your fingers out of your backsides and deal with the problem without resorting to treating your customers as imbeciles.

The problem is at your end so deal with it!!!!!!

    Maverick

Never ever tell me that Ubisoft is anything more than a cash-cow, whose sole aim in this industry is to make money with sometimes shoddy products sold to unsuspecting customers who then have no form of redress. Even the Community Managers are led up the garden path with so-called solutions. The whole company is just a farce and anyone cosidering buying anything in the future that carries a Ubisoft Logo should be aware that it is probably a second rate product for which you will NOT receive any after sales service...no anything you need will have to come from the decent people who populate these forums.

    Maverick

UPDATE...To anybody else who has been experiencing the same issue, before doing any adjustments to your computer please try to go online now and post back here!!!!!

Well, having waited another 6 days for a reply, here is what the Technical Department of Ubisoft have replied to me, which will make interesting reading for all those using Silent Hunter 4.

Response (Ubisoft technical support) 01/19/2010 14:03
    Hello Maverick,

    Thanks for your e-mail.

Your problem can be caused by a incompatibility with the OS. The games its NOT compatible with Windows 7.

We do apologise for the inconvenience.

    Kind regards
    Ubisoft Technical Support

Well that just about sums them up...I don't ever remember anyone coming on here, as an official of Ubisoft, and stating that the game is not compatible with Windows 7.

I have replied to their Technical support Department but am not going to bore you with it, suffice it to say that they need some staff training to take place!!!!

When the game went on sale Windows 7 wasn’t available, and the game was never said to run with Windows 7 so I'm unsure why this angers you so much. A lot of games have compatibility issues with new operating systems, frustrating yes but sadly not something we can do a great deal about

Ms-Kleaneasy, as I have just told your Technical support Department the game runs fine in Windows 7 and apart from an issue with screen resolution, a windows 7 issue, there are NO problems. The same issue existed when I ran Vista. They just choose to ignore the problem.
