I don't have the room to build or display a U-boat model at the moment (not a big one anyway), but if I did, I'd be very tempted to get some of the extra details you can buy from euromodels.co.uk (search for 'U-boat'). Some amazing interior details you can add, plus crew figures.

They do have some nice models, I used to have one of an A-10 Warthog that had a whole ground crew loading bombs on it. Have seen kits for other planes that are the same way, as well as kits for all kinds of different ground crews and equipment

Funny thing I keep on bumping in.
Why is it always often spelled U-boat. Why can't they use U-boot (it's a german word not an english one) If you have a english text use submarine.

I give up

"Enemy submarines are to be called U-boats. The term 'submarine' is to be reserved for Allied underwater vessels. U-boats are those dastardly villains who sink our ships, while submarines are those gallant and noble craft which sink theirs."

I am waiting till the Revell 1/72 scale GATO sub comes out (October), I plan to order and build it. its around 75 at some sites. the Type VIIC 1/72 is at 50-60 at some sites now. The VIIC/41 is even cheaper, but I may get that model, but I like more advanced version of the U-Boat, but the missing deck gun makes it kind of a silly choice to buy. Cause the Deck Gun looks cool. Many common people who may recognize U-Boats normally remember them with a gun on top and a netcutter in front. The generic look of a U-boat. But I love the GATO, so I want to build it first.

It's all about the netcutter in front!
I bought the VIIC 1/72 this weekend, but my skills are nowhere near up to par to make it, so I've got a bunch of little smaller ones IXBs and VIIs I'm going to test on before I try the big set.

Just ordered a Type VII/41 Atlantic version. I hope to do a better job with this one, my first attempt was a Type VIIC also made by Revell.

Goose - I seem to recall you posting some pics of your VIIC model whilst it was still a work in progress. Do you have a pic of the finished model?
