Definitely not the best design, but unfortunately a lot of Xbox games require bringing up the console controls to exit. Kinect just adds to the difficulty.Originally posted by spaterson65:

As a game dev myself, this is extremely poor UI design. There should 100% absolutely be a EXIT the game button.
Not sure how this made it past QA. Very basic.
I do software QA for a living and this has very little to do with QA, it's just poor design by the user experience designer -- they have the last say. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
As I tried to make clear in my previous post, NONE of my classic (pre-Kinect) disc-based Xbox 360 games (and I have a lot of those) have an (in game) option anywhere to exit to the dashboard at all! The Xbox Live Arcade Games (XBLA) feature an exit option in the main menu (I think Microsoft forces XBLA-Devs to add this option), basically because you start those games directly out of the dashboard (there's no disc).
Yes, in this way, it's a little inconsistent to not have an exit option when regarding all different kinds of games. But across the disc-based games (kinect and non-kinect), there's a consistency.
I don't know if Microsoft specifications prohibit developers to add an exit-option into the game or not (my guess is they do). Another reason for the missing quick-exit might be: "if it's not there, you can't accidentally hit it"
As I stated, it depends on what you want to do after you exit the game. Maybe MS will add an option to go to the dashboard hand-free quicker in the future (Maybe another global gesture). But I really doubt it.
I don't know about you people, but after I work out with YS:FE, I'm usually pretty sweaty. I make sure I'm back at the "activity selection" screen, so all my progress is saved. Then I use my Logitech Harmony remote to shut down my TV/AV-Receiver/Xbox with a single button press and go to take a well deserved shower ;-)
I think what most people want is someway to know when your "session" is over, especially if you're doing the personal training. For example:Originally posted by ToastedSoul:

1. Start game
2. Choose personal training
3. Do prescribed workout as directed by the "trainer"
4. Message indicating that you've completed your workout for today, see you tomorrow.
At least that what I'd want anyway. I'm guessing they wanted it to be flexible, but if I didn't want any direction I wouldn't use the personal trainer.
I just posted something similar to this, I dont know if I am done for that days exercises or what, and I only have 2 blue bars filled in. I even did a couple more sessions to see if it would end and it did not. I really would like to see some message like "Thats it for the day, see you tomorrow", this would help with my motivation as well.
I like to keep my training sessions flexible. I usually start with full Cardio Boxing sessions gold and silver, then do my personal training. Depending on the personal training and how I feel, I add one or more personal training sessions/or finish with another Cardio Boxing session.Originally posted by ThundR2010:

Now, it would be great if I could configure YS:FE so that it would have me work the above sessions and ask me in between if I want to continue with the next session or do something else. But since that doesn't work (yet... ), I'll have to select each session each day...
Another thing I wish they could add was an option to intensify your personal programs, like:
- shorter/no pauses between exercises/sessions
- a repetition multiplier (eg. have me do each exercise 2.0 times of the default repetition count)
- an option to switch different programs on a daily basis, while keeping progress on all programs. (plus an option to increase the difficulty/length of those programs over time;-))
I think (I am not entirely sure now), that you get the "that was your daily session"-bubble only for the programs with the time-measure in minutes next to the program name. When you have done one session of those, the bubble pops up and shows you how many days are left in the program. You get the option to "play again", but doing so on the same day will not advance the daily progress indicator. For these programs, every session is exactly the same, you will do the same sequence of exercises for 12 days.Originally posted by isurus2008:

For other programs like Cardio/Toning/..., after a completed session, you will get the option "next session", which advances you in the program (you will usually get a new session (sequence of exercises) every time you select "next session" (or start the program when your console was off).
I have exactly the same problem.
Because I haven't started a program I've just now completed my third fitness test. I guess I'll have to select something and hope it saves.
The first problem is that it doesn't autosave after you complete the fitness test. The second problem is there no way to manually save your progress.
Thank you MutualDisdain I agree entirely. ToastedSoul, I have to say your patronising post misses the point entirely. Never mind. I am somewhat disappointed that, despite the fact this is an official Ubisoft forum, no-one from the devs or company has seen fit to make any comment. Everyone seems agreed that you should be able to save and exit at will but there's been no comment as to why the current situation exists. Was it planned like that or just shoddy coding?
@Bunceyboy:
My posts weren't meant to be patronizing, I just wanted to point out what may be clear to me as a long time Xbox 360 user/and as a software developer (not associated with Ubisoft/MS) myself.
Yes, saving your progress should just work these days. And you should not have to exit the game for that. If that's not the case, the dev/QA guys clearly did not their job right. In my case, I my progress was always saved correctly (I never tried to switch away from programs I haven't finished yet), I even got points for a partial session added to my total score when I had to exit the session halfway through. I usually turn of my console when I'm back at the activity selection screen.
I cannot believe that the Ubisoft devs did not fix the lost progress bug mentioned in quite a few threads on this board, as well as other stuff dampens the experience (bad of leg curls and other exercises/timing (trainer being out of sync with the music)).
So, sorry if my posts sounded too aggressively to any of you, maybe that was just the developer in me looking a little too hard at the technical side of the problem...
