    Hi Joe,

I could host the movie for you, though some people have experienced problems with the server I am on. It appears that if you try to do anything too often, it will block your IP. Even clicking a download link twice in a few minutes will do it. I've got full admin access to an account and even I'v ebeen blocked once!!

The blocking doesn't happen often and if you dont find anyone else I'd be happy to host it for you. I have unmetered bandwidth.

Got the chance to download it a bit ago.

Just an excellent, excellent movie Joe-90. I am extremely impressed. Knowing that it was true and that you went through the pains to make it historically correct just adds more to it.

As already mentioned, great to see the motion sketching, it really adds to the realism factor. Particularily nice was the takeoff scenes with the motion sketching, extremely well done.

The slight desaturation also adds to realism I think and you did a nice job of balancing that too.

Visually I would have only one minor negative critique (and believe me, I say these things to myself as well), the colour depth. What motion sketching and desaturating does to adding to realism, compression can steal back. Finding that sweet spot between adequate compression and compressing a bit too much is a very difficult thing. I think you almost nailed it but the colour banding in the sky and distance did steal my attention just slightly sometimes.

Although I usually don't like the inclusion of real video (in particular, actual TV, film and movie scenes, not so much docu. stuff) into the movies I loved the way you did it in the beginning of your movie. Because you begin by showing us photographs of real people and places it's a real nice segway into the game portion of the movie. Nicely executed.

One more negative critique, graduate to the addition of real sound effects, while the ingame sounds are passable, the inclusion of real sounds would have blown this movie through the stratosphere.

Music was great and fit well, and your editing to it was spot-on.

Loved the slow pans around (obviously done with a mouse-emulator??). Most significantly near the end when you pan around the returned aircraft and then slowly fade to the same slow pan around the stranded pilot. Great job.

As previously mentioned as well, the slight timelapsing near the end was nice.

Your flyby shot of the aircraft coming to the pilot's rescue is timed perfectly in mood and music. Then when showing the take off, the flyby into the setting sun with the music swelling is gorgeous, followed by recon photos of the destruction of Filmstad and London. Hauntingly well done.

I could go on but I've gotta get going. Very nice and a job extremely well done, I think you did the pilots of the 602 Squadron proud.

    S!

NTesla, I have pm'ed you an alternative temporary url as I can't use those other file sharing programs.

Thrustmaster, thanks for the offer, mate. I have put a request into VWC and Netwings so I'll see what they say first.

MrVH, I'm really pleased you liked it. I would not have dreamed of making a movie longer than 10 mins until I saw the story telling potential of 'I Promise'. As for codec's.....AARGH....yer, i never knew compression was so complicated. We can only try to get it it better And real sounds, of course, yer, next time.

T_O_A_D, danm right on the new V2 model - how do think I felt after 2 months of work and then we get promised a V2 model!!!

    Hello Joe-90,

Thanks for the links. Finally was able to download and watch your film.

Your latest film joins my personal collection of IL2/Virtual films, to say that I can acknowledge how good your film is. I enjoyed the complete 14+ min. of it. The resolution used did justice to IL2, the music fed the story and the story gave meaning to this film. Many of your filmed shots are note worthy, the rescue by the seaplane is one of them I enjoyed, when it took off. The landings of the fighters as well are marvalous.

I differ from MrVH comment on using real footage in films, I use them very much but that is my view and I respect his. You used them so well that it seemed part of the story, it did not leap out, well mixed. You could have waited for the patch to use the ingame V2 rockets but I imagine you wanted all of us to enjoy the film now.

Another scene that stayed in my mind was the launch and re-entry of the V2 rocket, well done.

    Now for some critique:

Some scenes you could notice a slight stutter, don't feel bad since I do also trip on this issue even on my last film "Pacific Fighters". One has to strive to have high FPS so issues like these can be eliminated. Trick/recommendation: Try lower res or lower gfx game settings to increase FPS. There is also the trick of running the game at 1/2 or 1/4 speed then speeding it up later at cutting time. There are also tools within a video editor to help increase speed.

Another issue I found: You were asking some weeks ago about doing a narrative or using sub titles, this movie begged for some narratives. It would have been Ideal to have RAF Pilot "Cupid" Love view of the story. Also, another idea would be to use pilot conversations during the story, meaning radio traffic between themselves. This way it would give the extra immersion factor for your film.

Other than these minor issues, I would give your film a two thumbs up. Great work, you have much potential as a story teller via the film media.

    Keep it up.

    Best regards,

    NTesla (a.k.a. THX-1138)
