Theoretically, Condorcet is the best voting system - the "true majority winner" is also known as the "Condorcet Winner". Condorcet matches every contender head-to-head with the contender that beats all others becoming the overall winner. You could call it instant round robin voting. To do Condorcet, just have people rank their choices as before - putting two choices at the same rank is also permitted. Instead of only picking top two, voters can rank as many or as few screenshots as they like. To evaluate, put the results in a 2 x 2 matrix. Here's a link to a to the
Condorcet Method that explains how to do it. In the event of a tie, use the Borda Count (untruncated) as the tie break.
The alternative approach, Approval Voting (AV), just allows everyone to vote for as many contenders as they like. All of the votes are totalled and the winner is the contender with the most votes. AV is nearly as good as Condorcet and it's a little simpler, though if you just set up an Excel spread sheet and plug the Condorcet ranking info, the answer will pop right out.
Why use a different voting system at all? Once you decide to use some other system (truncated Borda) besides the one most people know (first-past-the-post, the system of voting for only one contender - it's what we use in elections in the U.S.) then why not go with the system that produces the most fair outcome?
Why am I suggesting this? In part because I'm interested in voting systems and in part because I'd like to educate people about alternatives to the systems that are used in elections. Americans who are unhappy with the candidates we're going to have in the November Presidential election should ponder how likely it is that split vote effects probably resulted in the preferred candidate being knocked off early. It's say this is almost a certainty in the GOP primaries and probably has already happened in the Dem primaries as well.
My personal preference would be Condorcet, with Borda for a tie break. Give it a try and see what you think.
