Heres a discusion on ts tonight "Fancy a game of Far cry... Yeah havnâ´t played it in ages....OK I`ll find a server you load up and follow.... You ever gonna join mate?....Still waiting for ubi to azthenticate.. you got the patches... yeah got 1.3... nah you got to have 1.33 or it will stay on that screen forever .... Iâ´ll get it now... Oh do I need 1.31 and 1,32 too?... nah leave out the 1.32 just the 1.31 and the 1.33....Ok got it good to go ......Uh mate you got all the mappacks...Ah **** no ...ok we can play on a ubi server or one with the stock maps...nice one (Game goes on )..hey pb kick I`ll join again...np mate...ooogh cd key is in use gonna go and play somat different cant be bothered with all this ****....k mate Iâ´ll just look in on this server say hello if theres any old faces....**** level versions dont match cd key in use. You fancy a game of css???
Now can you imagine after getting internet for the first time loving the sp version of Farcry and trying this game out and going thru all this? Would you bother ? No nough said! Iâ´ve got 3 gig of maps and still get kicked for level versions dont match Imagine if you have no idea like I did when I started with online gaming (no joke I think Slugworth changed the wording on his sig for the maps because of an old post where I asked what it was all about mp levels and ****!)
Ive allways loved farcry mp. Was the first online game I played but if it was like this to play I would never have got into it. After beeing offline for 6 months I can understand people never even trying it out!!
:P bjanga - yeah OE is straight forward
But i agree with you on FC mp phili...every single one of my friends.. and even the majority of my mod team can't be bothered with farcry MP for the exact reasons you described.. it's a shame but that's just the way it is. You either have to be plain persistant enough, enthusiastic enough, or already be a Farcry Veteran to not be put off by the 'updating' process.
Sorry to sound bitter, but I try hard to like multiplayer FC and whenever I get back into it for a night or 2 I get some serious technical problem that just puts me right off.
The only way it will ever change is:
1) A smooth running mod is made that everyone can get on with.
2) another Patch, from somebody
And i am doubtful of either happening soon so... I feel sorry for all the newcomers getting slapped by MP. :/
So what would really solve this problem? a single download with every patch, and instruction on how to apply them?
A mega download with every map that was in a map pack rolled into one?
Will people really be bothered to grab either of these?
I'd love to address this issue, just not sure of the exact method. Suggestions welcome.
I am pretty sure DocSeal has provided a way to patch from 1.0 directly to 1.33. Found it.

FYI: Carver Gaming League starts in the States in a week or so. So far there are 14 clans signed up and over 200 players. Now these are not newbies but everyday players, but they still put up with the rigamarole of getting Far Cry to run smoothly.
I can see it being intimidating for new folks though. Especially with Instincts out and many console owners liking the game and trying out the PC version. "You mean I have to manually download a map? Where does it go? Whats a .rar file?"
See if this helps ... Far Cry patches and Map Packs
Wierd...
I have never seen that before but the message URL changed when you stickied it...
I fixed it now, we need to watch that one!
Nice Slug!
Here are two more links that Phili now knows!
