I have to agree with steve_v , Lake9JG26. If you have nothing constructive to add then I believe you are just spamming.

I have still not convinced myself to buy it yet. I was very afraid that there would be no support. It seems one patch will be out in a few days and then another one in a month. That is good news. The informations on the various forums is contradictory. It goes from total scrap to flawless perfect game. You could say that I should just buy and see for myself, but the pictures and videos I see without propellers seen from the cockpit, clean view like from a jet fighter, kills immersion.
I hope that with the coming patches this will be restored as it should be for propeller piston engined fighters. Luthier said this is difficult to do, but if the filter has been made optional then do the same for the propellers. I can understand that people who never flew piston engined fighter or military trainers will not notice or care. But in my case I have that experience and this is why I do care a lot about it.
Let's wait for the next patch and see what comes.

Yes, it's a disappointment for those who don't remember the early days of IL2.
It took months in the beginning for many to get their machines to run it at what would now seemingly be considered laughable rates ( without "stutters" every time a new "patch - actually for the most part a FREE Enhancement" was offered).
I agree with the person who suggested that it would have been better to sell this version as a "paid-for Beta" for which "no charge enhancements" would be periodically provided. ( That's been the history for IL2 and would make those "new to the process" - 2weeks ring a bell?, feel involved in the development rather than "ripped-off" by being sold an unfinished work. But, given UBI's history, Tact, Diplomacy, and CustomerService are obviously not required for employment at the "deep carpet" level. ) However, it it what it is.
Oleg and crew will over the next year (or two) get it all ironed-out (performance-wise)and all of the benefits of the underlying code in the Operating System will gradually be realized. Heck, Microsoft doesn't even have the bugs ironed-out of DX-"whichever" yet to their own satisfaction, much-less programmers able to write concisely to it's unfinished code. (Anyone wonder why MS "really" stopped work on FSX now, or sold off the subsequent "simulation environment" code to Lockheed-Martin ? )
How much has anyone had to PAY for myriad new flyable aircraft in the IL2 series ?
Have you noticed the price for "just one" high quality aircraft addition to FSX ?
If you've installed "CloD" ( seems like a REALLY unfortunate acronym at the moment )and it will run at all on your hardware, play with the settings ( it's from 1C:Maddox - that's always a never-ending adventure ), climb in the Gypsy Moth, and learn how to fly all-over again ( remember, periodic "check-rides" are part of the life of "real pilots" anyway ), and have faith.
Compared to the "other sims" and their "paid add-ons" you've already gotten a real bargain if you only trundle around in the Gypsy Moth for a month or two till the initial performance issues are "optimized" ( for the 1st time of many to come).
I'm sure there will be many more-justifiable complaints / disappointments to come in the yrs ahead surrounding things like the, say, inaccurate maps. But for now just be glad you've seen it before us Yanks and that "optimizations" will come ( not to mention free "enhancements" unless you all whine too much ). A great many of us are going to have to save up for new hardware before we can hope to run this comfortably anyway !

That's not a rationale, justfication or an excuse for a joke release that is not even close to being finished or optimised, i'm tired of hearing this tired old nonsense trotted out in defence of what has been a ripoff.

It seems to be running acceptably on some machines.
Remember, this is NOT a "Game" it's a "simulation Environment"

Go to the IL2 forum, search community help, see how many times the experienced "UNPAID" helpers in the community had to ask for a "DX Diag" to help a "community member" get things running well.
Program code usually didn't need to be "fixed" but missing or not-current drivers, dlls, or duplicate drivers, interfering non-related to IL2 programs, weak RAM, or conflicting hardware were often the problem.
That will likely be the case with this "simulator" too. Operating Systems are written to allow for all imaginable uses with hooks and APIs contributed by teams that don't often communicate precisely with each other. 1C is a very large organization. Maddox Games is a tiny affiliate of 1C with a "very small" number of programmers. UBI is "just a bunch of publishing house types".
Storm of War is a massive undertaking. IL2 took 10 years to get to the point where it works great. Hardware and the operating system that runs on it is vastly more capable & reliable than even 3 yrs ago ( Vista anyone ?).
Seems like many complaining are doing so with unrealistic expectations ( never known anything but "the best money could buy" ).
Well, money can't buy success when exploring uncharted waters. Win7, the programming tools available to develop Storm of War, and the ability to fully-utilize multi-core processors are all "somewhat uncharted". Storm of War is not some flashy, gussied-up, first-person-shooter with enemies positioned behind stationary points on a grid.
For those of you who actually write code, how many enterprise applications FAIL to deliver to their specs and are replaced with new paradigms/programming tools/business concepts before they're allowed to be de-bugged or optimized to perform as imagined initially ? I dare say that they've each had far more "re$ource$" and probably skilled programmers than have been at Maddox Games' disposal. Maddox Games' staff are both artists and computer scientists who have a passion for flying too. Such people usually don't just "crank out a GAME" and then lose interest and go on to "something completely different" if they're able to support themselves in a reasonable and modest fashion. So far Oleg and crew have done all-right for themselves and for us.
Learn a little patience, kids !
( From someone who's old enuf to be a grandfather - or maybe great-grandfather - to a great many in this "community" )

OK... so, not to stir up a hornets nest of angst here, but I just can't resist. I'm in the states, won't have the game for a while, and don't even have my sim machine back up since I moved last year. However, I'm gonna jump in head first and ask the obvious question that comes to mind: In the interest of expediting the bug-fixes and, indeed addition of content, and since many who already have purchased the sim seem to think they are being forced into the position of paying to beta test the premature program (that ubisloth obviously forced the devs to release- not to mention the last minute addition of insultware / filter / politically correct bsware = Lame, way to go ubisloth duchebags!) Sorry, where was I? Oh, yea.

Since we ( all the fans of IL2; veteran and future) are basically going to be paying to help test/fix/develop (to a limited degree) why not go ahead and get started on a sdk for the community so the codemonkeys in the crowd, along with the modeljunkies and modfreaks can start cranking out some fixes and content? (All of which will of course have to be approved by 1C/Oleg Maddox himself or an acceptable level of vetting.)

As I, along with any WWII sim flyer worth their salt, will be investing in this title, and any addons / upgrades to come for the forseable future (be sure! 2 weeks, etc.) you know, just like '46 and the original. Why wait to drag it out, it is already an inevitability anyway... it's just a matter of time. Seriously, why wait? Don't limit the experience out of worry/spite/pride/unfouded greed (the community will happily crank out quality content for FREE... they are passionate about this phenomenal sim! IL2 was the best WWII flight sim period> no need to even try to deny it. COD will continue in that spectacular style, no doubt about it. (I haven't even flown it, but I KNOW it to be true... yes, it will be that good.) It just seems like you guys at the grindhouse (1C/OMG)could use some free code time / modelling, etc.

    OK, rant off... flame on.

why dont you and UBISOFT offer some kind of partial money back refund for an incomplete game, that would be far better than reading about excuses and hearing about the hard work thats required in order to fix this game.

I think it's current working condition is only £19.99.

I had high hopes for this sim, but the bad parts shame the rest of the game ... and UBISOFT .

Maybe in a few weeks I can come back with something more positive, but at the moment I just feel ripped off.
I think thats a great idea sell it at $19.95 as it is and everything They put in there hard time and make a patch you can download it for $5.00 per patch/fix I'm sure there has been atlease 2 patches since you made the postso that would be what $30 so far?

I have learned over the year with any new software .. theres bugs Windows has it Google had it Games have it ..Before the game was released EVERYONE was asking when when when? Oleg even said it will not be 100% but thats why theres beta .. I seen the lag on there Russian showing and that was there own computer .. Anything you buy is buyer beware I have never played IL-2 before but i do know there history of game play and fixs ..I seen someone say well they had 7 years to make it right ..How many people had a I-7 7 years ago or a quad core? or Crossfire /SLi ? ajustments take time
Ya i have mixed feelings But I still feel with all the hard work It's worth the wait ...Flamming them isn't going to get the job done faster

I dont know whats worse. Ubi's exuses and pity party or the sniveling commiserating of the players they screwed, and now thru some mammalian
herd instinct feel like they have to band together and protect some greedy corporation who just stuck it to them.

Really, I cant stand it anymore. You have no family, friendship, or karmic connection with this company so why is it so hard to stand up like men and say, "you screwed us and were not happy"?

And they ripped you off on purpose. They knew the condition of the game they were accepting money for, AND, releasing. Just like they have known all along they cant deliver to America on the dates they advertised. I bet it wont be here on 24 May 11 either. They are the Svengalis behind this entire episode, to get our $$ flowing their way and get a working product out......whenever.

Im out. I'll check back in in Jul. and see the status of this game then. I'll just play my FPSs. I was really looking forward to this game, you have no idea. But I'd have to be rideing the rock pipe to pay $50 to download a buggy game from a foreign source.

Its not a case of the publisher and developer being greedy. Its a case of the developer needing funds to continue development. The publishers can only support a developer for so long.

Its either a case of releasing the game too early and getting much needed funds to continue development or close up shop.

Which would you prefer. Personally I have no interest in flying IL-2 1946 for another ten years.
